9 Out of 10 Americans Reflection While watching the clip 9 out of 10 Americans I was shocked. I often have heard about the top 1% of the news or when my brother is talking politics, but I didn’t understand the extent of it. I thought that our wealth was much more equally displayed among all Americans. It shocked me to see how skewed it is in reality, and even more how little we really know as Americans about how our economics really work. I don’t think that our economic system is great. I think it works, but needs improvement, because it is not okay for the top 1% of the nation to have 20% of the nation 's income. Coming to Hope I didn’t expect there to be such of a culture shock, I mean I was going to be in the same city that I have lived …show more content…
That being said however, I know I would still give. Right now in my life I don’t have a ton of money to give, so I give my time. I think that as people we are here to help others, and we need to do that. A large part of my belief of this comes from Jesus. He instructed us to give, and not hold on to money, for it can’t bring you happiness. I know that it would be hard, but that if I had a lot of money, I would give. That is what we are called to do, and that is what I have seen my family and friends do with what money they have, and i want to follow by example. There might be some natural feelings of envy and anger towards the top 1% if you were at the bottom of the economic ladder, but I don’t think I would resent those people. I don’t think what they are doing is right or fair, especially because so much of our wealth depends on what we are born into, which is something we don’t get to pick. I also know that resenting and hating other people would benefit me in no way, so there would be no point in doing that. I think you would just have to accept that, and try to get education or work to climb out of poverty in whatever way you

In his 1889 review, Andrew Carnegie promoted what he called “The Gospel of Wealth”. He believed it was the obligation of those who accumulated to money to use it to promote the advancement of society. Like Carnegie, I believe that it is the responsibility of the 1% to use their wealth to aid the poor and not to buy lavish but pointless materialistic items. I believe that they should take it upon themselves to ensure that those who work hard will receive the opportunities…

Also, donating all of one's extra money is a completely absurd idea to believe is possible. Ideas like this only work in a perfect, utopian society. It is hard for most people to accept that the life they have been given is one of a lower economic stature. I didn’t ask to be born into a working class family, but I am immensely grateful that I was. I grew up in a community of kids with parent’s all working blue collar jobs with minimal education. Living in an environment where everyone around you is living paycheck to paycheck provides a sense of false normalcy and security. It didn’t take long for me to realize how my friends from neighboring communities had it much better off than my family did.…

Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor and presenter of the documentary Inequality for All, once said “The faith that anyone could move from rags to riches - with enough guts and gumption, hard work and nose to the grindstone - was once at the core of the American Dream. Unfortunately today we know that this is no longer the case in the United States. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to increase as the rich get richer and the poor can’t get out of poverty. Contrary to popular belief this is not due to lack of hard work but due to a lack of opportunity and this has become a huge problem for the United States. Although we can’t have every person in this country be wealthy due to the system of capitalism, it is possible to decrease…

Dear Mrs.Jennings, I, Washita/Dr.Mike, would like for you to convey my truths about the Native Americans, as well as how they have helped me help society. The Native Americans are people just like you and I. They have lived on this land, and had no need to claim it for their own self-interests. For the people of this community, though most, yet not all, have a hatred or distrust for the people that they know little about. I have known the Native Americans for an extended amount of time, which has granted me mutual trust and love with the true people of America.…

Today in America we live in the richest country in the history of the world, but that reality means very little because much of that wealth is controlled by a very small handful of individuals. America is now one of the worst major developed countries in terms of economic equality in the entire world, and at the gap is at its worst point since the 1920’s. The middle-class of the nation has been slowly disappearing and having its money go up towards the upper-class. And to make it all worse 58% of all new wealth in the United States goes towards the top 1% of earners since 2009. Wealth and income inequality is one of the hardest issues to fix that the United States currently faces, because of the Supreme Court decision in 2010 on the case Citizens…

In today’s materialistic world, we are told that possessions and wealth will bring us meaning when in actuality they only bring temporary satisfaction and leave us craving more. We are so caught up in satisfying our own needs and wants that we rarely take time to look around us at the needs of others. Even when we do see others suffering, many of us are too busy to help or makeup excuses as to why we can’t aid them in their time of need. We look up to celebrities like Paris Hilton and 50 Cent who lead lavish, wasteful, and selfish lifestyles and often aspire to be like them. Many of these stars give little money to charity, and if they do it’s not publicized.…
