Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Writing Class

Great Essays
When I started this class, I thought it would be easy. Writing is one thing I have always done quite well, and I thought I did not have anything else to improve upon. I was wrong. In the beginning of this class we were told to set goals for ourselves; however, my goals manifested in earnest after my completion of the first paper. After the Arguing a position paper, it became quite clear that my time management skills were sorely insufficient. I found myself with three pages to write in under three hours. Suffice to say that those hours were very frantic. Consequently, due to my complete lack of fortitude, my paper came out with a variety of mistakes. Forgetting to put a comma, citations not done properly ect. these mistakes would have been easily preventable if only I had slowed down and had someone else read through my paper. I also found myself struggling to find reliable sources …show more content…
I believe my most impressive strength is my writing coherence and syntax, and while it was not an area that I needed to put massive amounts of effort in, there was no reason as to why I could not learn a few new techniques. For example, I started using semicolons before using however as a conjunction. On the other hand, grammar and punctuation are areas that needed a little improvement. In that regard, the program Paper Rater has become my best friend. Paper Rater is a website that you can plug your paper into, and it catches the smallest of grammar and punctuation mistakes. From using this website, I have obtained a better understanding of when and where to use commas. I was under the impression that a comma must be followed by a conjunction or it would be incorrect. I have discovered that there are many exceptions to the rule. Until I have a complete understanding of grammar, I have discovered ways to ensure that my errors are corrected. Now that I am now able to

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

The first time, I enrolled in this class, I felt excited knowing this class would help on my grammar, so I can become a better writer. My first thought that cross my mind was this was going to be easy and it was. My last experienced with writing and English was okay because I mainly get a B or a C, but rarely I would get an A. I always been having trouble with grammars. My high school English teachers taught us about grammars and how to become a better writer. It was similar to what you had taught us in class because we always learned about grammar out of a book and we got tested after we been practice.…

I learned that all the prewriting is not the same there are different formats of writing. I haven't learned which essay writing best fits me. I believe that the one that fits me the most is the free writing because I can just write down anything and continue without stopping. I can write to whatever comes to mind and even though it doesn't make any sense I still write it down I feel that most of my best writing comes from free style writing. I can only do my best when I feel that I am able to more work under pressure and that I can relieve a lot of my stress by writing.…

I have learned so much great tips throughout these past few weeks of class that has helped me become a better writer. One reason I feel better when I write is because I understand the pre-writing process and how important it is. Prewriting is basically where you jot down all your thoughts and see if the things you wrote down are going to work for what you're writing and doing that helps build a stronger paper. Another thing that has helped me become a better writer is planning. One reason I feel planning has helped me become a better writer is because I learned that that is where you create your topic sentence and the topic sentences are what makes your essay because that's what guides you throughout your entire essay.…

As I first walked into classroom W3 to begin my first day of class in Freshman Composition, I could not help the nervous feeling in my gut. I have always gotten away with writing papers at the las minute, and I could tell right away that I would not be able to do that in this class. Although the instructor seemed nice enough, I was still nervous about all of the work outside of the classroom required. Despite the feeling in my gut, I still set lofty goals for the class, most of which revolved around receiving an “A” in the class.…

I write from the heart and I don't make use of flowery words or phrases to fill up space. My stories are rounded, cohesive, and targeted at my client’s specific audience. As I detest the use of spinning software, each article is researched and written by me, according to my client’s specifications. As for keywords, I'm more than proficient in their use, while I am also able to add links where the client thinks it necessary.…

When I was younger, I would eat up books faster than I got them. I’d frequently been caught reading books in the zaniest of places. I remember wanting to try writing, although I could never fully convey the words in my mind onto paper. Every once in a blue moon when I was able to; only I could understand what I wrote. It had fascinated me, and honestly frustrated me, that people could write these whimsical and arcane books that I’d held onto like a mother to her child.…

Writing has never been one of my strongest skills nor my favorite. Even though I enjoy reading another person’s writing the thought of someone else reading mine just sends chills down my spine. I wouldn’t consider myself a decent writer whatsoever. This defiantly gets in the way of how I feel about writing at times, because it makes me insecure of what others are going to think after they finish reading my essay. When I signed up for ENGL 1301 I was quick to assume the course was just going to consist of reading a lot of material and taking quizzes that covered the readings.…

Whenever I inform someone that I am currently taking this course, there is a stale, predictable response I invariably receive. “Why? Did you forget to get your extra language credit?” to which I would swiftly reply, “no, I took it because I want to improve my writing”. I ensured I received the necessary credits in those three special categories a long time ago, by fulfilling the requirement in grade 10.…

Writing can be a struggle for a lot of people, including me. High school showed me that I clearly struggle with specific parts of creating a paper, or a short story. Like most people in high school I was given complements on my work, and some specific parts of my paper to work on by my high school instructors. I always had a great topic, or I thought my story was great. There is a similar problem I had then, and still have now.…

Who doesn’t struggle with writing? I know I always have struggled with writing, for the longest time I didn’t even really understand the differences in sentences, and it is something that’s still confuses me a little bit. To be completely honest I sometimes procrastinate longer than I should when it comes to writing, so I don’t always review the finished product the way I should. Life gets in the way occasionally, and I attempt to convince myself that I have plenty of time to finish they assignment. This particularly gave me problems in high school.…
