With determination, improvement can be expected. Kolb's theory of learning is important to assist one in adjusting to a new environment. Through my experience to use Kolb’s learning theory to adapt my university life.

There are four different stages in the process of learning. Firstly, the reflectivity of a concrete experience which is the transformation from A-level to university life, where there is the difference between my expectation versus the reality of university life. Secondly, the reflection of the reason that leads to the difference

Many subjects that are taught in university education is unfamiliar, which contain many professional terms that required deep understanding. However, due to the lack of pre-reading, I would not able to understand terms used in class. Thus, class readiness is important to ensure keeping up the pace of the class and ensure knowledge is understood.

After strategies are planned out, I carried out the plans step by step. I realised after the start of using a planner as the daily routine, time is better managed. Submission of work is less likely to be forgotten. Consistency in revision and pre-reading of the textbook had allowed me to better understand concepts in classes. Also the ability to memorise of work. Furthermore, the efficiency of completion of work had greatly improved. Thus, now having greater confidence in my university life.

By the use of Kolb's learning theory in my adaptation of university life, it leads to a smoother transition. It might be challenging at the beginning of my university life, however, by understanding, identifying and consistently make changes to the wrongs I made had brought a better out of me. Just like the quote by Andy Warhol, learning should not stop, it is a continuous process for me to continue

Kolb’s experiential learning theory has been widely influential in adult learning. The theory and associated instruments continue to be criticized, but rarely is the graphical model itself examined. This is significant because models can aid scientific understanding and progress, as well as theory development and research. Applying accepted modelling and categorization criteria to Kolb’s basic model reveals fundamental graphic syntax errors, a failure to meet modellers’ graphic sufficiency and simplification tests, categorization and definitional problems relating to learning activities and typologies, misconstrued bi-polarities and flawed logic.…

Three learning theories that will be addressed in this discussion are as follows, self-directed and optimized, transformative, and critical reflection. Chen (2014) investigates “adult learners are self-directed and their learning is optimized when their experience is recognized and utilized in the learning process” (p. 407). Adult students are not 'clear slates' and their background turns into the medium through which substance is found out and in which to rethink new objectives to achieve (Chen, 2014). Self-directed is appropriate for an adult due to the connection that is made with their life experiences, the adult is able to plan and implement learning based upon their desire and initiation to learn. Self-directed is inappropriate for children because children rely upon the teacher as the caretaker to their education and implementation of it.…

    I. Introduction Thomas Edison once claimed that “great ideas originate in the muscles.” If great ideas indeed were originated in the muscles, could the use of movement and activity, that stimulate muscles, potentially help elicit our thoughts, while also untapping our potential to learn? To that end, could the use of movement offer a more effective means of learning and be applied in arduous subjects, such as mathematics, rather than passive forms of learning, such as sitting at a desk or listening to a lecture? Researchers in psychology, education, and neuroscience have spent decades understanding that the way in which we learn, describes our motivations and acquisition of information. They have looked at types of learners and trends in education…

Behavioural, personal and environmental factors, as well as previous experiences, all play a part in our understanding. They explain how different factors can help learners process and recall information, suggesting that as we learn we also change the way we perceive our surroundings and the way we interact with others. A definition by Kimble (1961) is that “Learning refers to a more or less permanent change in behaviour which occurs as a result of practice”, suggesting learning will almost always be permanent.…

The second stage is the begging practice, this means how we gather information, observe others, trial and error, and/or practicing the activity we wish to learn. The third is what she calls the advanced practice stage.…
