Reindeer Observation

Improved Essays
For my animal performance scene I was a reindeer. The biggest strengths that I had for my scene was my movement, portrayal of eating, and display of the prey-like nature of a reindeer. During research I learned that a reindeer walks heavily but also spry. I properly conveyed this concept in my scene by leaping from leg to leg, making sure to lead with my knees when I was in the air and to place my weight on my leading foot when I landed. Since reindeer eat grass and shrubs that is often buried under snow, I used my legs to display digging through snow similar to how a reindeer does. Lastly I displayed my reindeer as a prey by abruptly halting while I was eating to look slowly around for a predator. The first area of improvement for my scene …show more content…
The strengths of both of their performances were the recreation of the anatomy of their animal, displaying how their animal eats, and their expressions. Hunter did a really good job of showing the anatomy of a coconut crab by keeping his back hunched and making his hands resemble the claws of a crab. Emily’s use of being on her hands and legs was a great way of displaying how a koala would walk on its short legs to move itself from tree to tree. She also had a good facial expression that resembles how koalas seemingly have straight and unchanging expression. They both did a good job of showing how their animal eats by conveying resistance. Emily showed resistance when she was biting the leaves and Hunter displayed it by showing resistance to opening a coconut. Hunter could have improved his performance by making his walking more restrictive and broken, resembling how a crab moves with multiple jointed legs. He could have also spent more time eating the coconut after working so hard to open it. Emily could have improved her performance by showing a greater struggle between her and her competition. The resolution seemed too easy. They both used the skill of visualization where Hunter pictured a coconut on stage and Emily visualized being in a forested area on a tree with another koala bear as competition. Emily also showed stimulus and response by having another koala

The book “The Monkey’s Paw” and the play that we went and watched at ISU were same at some points but they were also different at some spots. The book, like all books, went deeper than the play did. In fact, the book was actually more enjoyable for me because I understood it more. I loved watching the play and reading the book, and now i’m going to compare and contrast them.…

Monstrosity isn’t always what is perceived on the outside. Becoming one with an animal, having animalistic tendencies, or an alter ego of a beast can be considered monstrous to society. In the poem “Why do you keep putting animals in your poems”, the man depicted in the poem is learning from the animals in the poem. He also realizes that the animalistic way of life is much simpler than the life of a human. In “Now You’re An Animal” by Mark Doty the professor goes into a studio to get his picture taken and walks out with an alter ego of an animal.…

With the collaboration of Richard Erodes, John Fire Lame Deer based this book on himself, the medicine man of the Sioux tribe. The focus on the medicine man provides a perspective of a lifelong journey to self-identification in the universe starting as a young adolescent seeking the vision necessary to be a medicine man. With clear indication of his purpose in life, John fire still indulges in living a life of white man's desires, yet was able to turn his back to the evils he was holding onto and set his path for the Sioux lifestyle, which dwelled upon respecting, loving, and respecting nature for what it is without destroying it. This new decision allowed for expansion in spiritual believes connecting to rituals, legends, and ceremonies. The…

Performing a number of experiments in an attempt to communicate with the Bigfoot, I established what is known as a “feeding station.” It is a location where the researcher will place gifts and food, in hopes the Bigfoot will take one or both, and reciprocate by leaving a gift. The feeding station I established was located in what looked to be a “day shelter.” I had located it a few weeks earlier while investigating the area.…

I attended the Emergent Phenomena by Rebecca Flint on 4/25/18. This presentation started off with a comparison between flocking of birds and the movement of particles. This was an interesting way to grab the attention of the crowd. She accomplished this by first showing a video of the movement of a large amount of starling birds. She had some technical difficulties trying to get the video, and that took away time from her presentation which would come made the end of presentation very brief.…

Walking to my car after a late class, there is much more opportunity for observation than during the day. Two girls walk by me, boots knocking against the concrete sidewalk, having a conversation about resumes. It’s one of the most professional conversations I’ve heard all day. The snow from Winter Storm Jonas is slowly melting, but the crunching of what snow is left is a comforting sound. I’m still waiting for that snow day.…

This Ritual Observation Project will be discussing my observations at Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. I went there on June seventh to gain insight first hand into the Catholic Church’s rituals and beliefs. I will begin by breaking down the entire mass that took place during my observation then I will compare and contrast Catholicism to Baptist Christianity (my religion). When I first entered the area where the mass was to be held at, I began to notice the exquisite detail and the Stations of the Cross, which shows Jesus’ crucifixion. The pictures that show the fourteen Stations of the Cross can be found in my Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Church PowerPoint presentation.…

Dancing in the Spotlight Standing in the spotlight is a very frightening, gut-wrenching accomplishment. Dancing alone in the spotlight can be even more so. I experienced dancing in the spotlight two years ago, when I played the part of Clara in the Nutcracker. Of course, it all started with dance, or rather, without dance. My mom was driving me to the studio, but I was not feeling well, so she strode inside to inform my teacher I was unable to dance that day.…
