In my opinion, firing the teachers would be a terrible idea for Harper High. The students who attended need these positive role models and influences in their lives to counteract the negative ones, and just simply help them out if they need food, or just someone to talk to about their lives outside of school, like the student who witnessed his first murder when he was ten years old. Another limitation for success is the gang lifestyle. Since these students are placed into gangs from birth, it is all they know. This makes it very difficult to remove them this lifestyle, and once peers and protection are added into the equation, it becomes much more complex. For example, one of the speakers on the podcast said he does not keep a firearm in his home, rather he keeps his gun a couple houses away, so its close enough if he needs it, and far enough away that the police cannot arrest him for it. Another limitation for success is the poverty that the neighborhood, and school face in the student population. The podcast mentioned that the school was very clean and well kept, and did not look like a “ghetto” school.
