Straight Laced Analysis

Starting off with the movie that we watched in class “Straight Laced” I thought that was a very interesting movie and something that gave me personally a lot of perspective and sort of opened my eyes a little bit. Because I am from a big city (washington Dc), I am used to being around people who are openly gay or openly transgender. But it really made me think about my high school. My high school was in the city and prided itself on diversity when in reality it was not that diverse. I think that my high school was similar to the movie. I think it was similar in the sense that you really stuck to gender norms and that girls always had to look good and dress up and guys were always athletic and played sports. Looking back on that I realized that this was a very narrow minded view of how to look a boys and girls. In high school I never really met people who were transgender or who didn 't fit the social norms at my school or like the high school in the video. Another thing that made me really think was the whole idea of the male gender and emotions. I had a good group of guy friends in high school and they were all very sporty and very …show more content…
Although we did not get to finish the movie, from what I saw of it, I really enjoyed it. I thought that the way they portrayed the women 's suffrage movement was very interesting and the way the portrayed feminist in general was something to think about. When i think about the women 's suffrage movement, i just think of people who want equal rights for women. But most people in society just think of feminism and feminist as angry women who hate men. But in this movie this was not the case. I wished I had been able to finish it. One last thing that I thought was some that i didn 't know was how violent the men were towards the women in during the women 's suffrage movement especially during the protest. It made me think about how the film showed how little respect that these men had for

Freedom of speech is something that has been long instilled in the minds of Americans. Some seem to suppose they have complete freedom of that right, however, there are rules and restrictions. Many are not aware of these limitations and are not aware of just how many our world possesses. Some countries have more restrictions than others, but overall there are some phrases that are against the law to use, for example, shouting “fire” in a theater full of people (Turley 160).…

Trading Places is a film that starred Eddie Murphy and Dan Aykroyd. The film debut was in 1983, and it discussed topics of racism and classism. Using the plot line of a rich white person losing all his fortunes and living like an impoverished black person he then sees the era of his ways. He overcomes his opposition by teaming up with other unfortunate people to help reclaim his riches that he once had in the begging. The film shows us that even though we live in the modern era we still carry the racial stigmas that was placed on people by the many generations that came before us.…

Personally, I found the film The Mask You Live In very eye opening. It focuses around how young boys are taught to portray their assigned gender and how they carry the lessons they are given into manhood. From as young as six years old, a boy is taught not to show emotion; that crying and hugging and any public displays of affection towards friends or loved ones in too feminine and unmanly. Boys learn to watch their father figures and associate them as the ideal role model for masculinity. When a father shows aggression towards a woman who then starts to cry, a young boy would not initially know what to make of it, and would possibly then associate violence with being manly and strong emotions as weak and girly.…

In the short story, "Why, You Reckon?" Langston Hughes uses a colored man's point of view in a pre-Civil Rights Movement Era to show that even if someone has money, it doesn't mean they have a happy life. Money is the center of anything and everything today.…

In Alfred Hitchcock’s film “The Birds,” the idea of feminism can be said to have a strong impact and importance throughout the film. This idea is brought out from Hitchcock’s depiction of the women in the film. It can be said that Hitchcock is against feminism from his metaphorical use of the bird attacks to punish the women for stepping into male realms. In the analysis of feminism among the female characters, I will use mainly the characters Melanie Daniels and Lydia Brennan since they are the main ones in showing a contrast relating to feminism. To make clear, feminism can be simply thought of as the idea of women being equal to men on social, political, and economic grounds.…

Both of the movies include a girl who is passionate about soccer and can go to any extent in proving to society that girls can play sports just like guys can.
