In order for one to survive and protect their land that most likely holds water, having many sons is crucial. As we went into more detail over the regions tribes, which are the main components the many separate parts of a country, we learned their rules. One that really stood out to me was the term “Tashmis”, which translates into a death sentence for whoever leaves their tribe. This kept finding its way into my mind the reason being that most American parents would love the idea of their child spreading their wings and flying off into the world alone; however in the Middle East you will tracked and killed for leaving. To add on to the subject it proves how modernism is having a major impact on the region as younger people’s ideologies change over time, making them want to leave the area. Continuing on in to Dr. Kedar’s lecture we learned how powerful a tribe may become due to a large extension of family and with that not even a state will want to intervene with the clan. We learn that when traditions die off under the influence of Islam they go out hard and one that hasn’t dared to be touched is the importance of their women. Through Dr. Kedar’s story of the female student who avoided being seen talking to males, because it could cost her life even if she in the other side of the world and technology is having a major backfire in this aspect. We then learned Dr. Kedar’s Philosophy and reasoning pointing out that a more violent environment will create a violent Muslim and a nice environment will create a peaceful Muslim, but they may both change their perspectives due to life experiences, he then went to add on that the religion of Muslim is both peaceful and violent due to the complete shift of stories in each chapter. In conclusion we learned that Islam is meant to convince and unite all Muslim nations into one powerful nation; however as we can see the downfall of most nations in the Middle East region is the many tribes within each nation dividing the people more. This only leads to more violence and chaos, it seems the region will only become peaceful once they all unite; furthermore this would most likely end harsh environments which cause many of the radical Muslims and terrorists that we
