The movement within the service was smoothly done. I will acknowledge that there was a great deal happening during the service that required movement. The children’s dance set the tone for the movement to come. I did appreciate that the Rev. Kletzing entered via the center aisle rather from somewhere in the back of the church. The passing of the peace is always a nice opportunity for the people to greet one another. I am of two minds though, is it a nice break for the parishioners partially through the service or a distraction from the tone of worship? I think I would lean toward the former. Kletzing’s sermon in terms of the dimensions of language used. I was frustrated as I tried to identify each of the dimensions and catalog his sermon as fitting one or another. It would be counterproductive to delineate my work here but nevertheless, I found all four dimensions well used here. His use of memorial language in particular seemed appropriate as he related the soldier’s story. “In worship, we must tell the story of God 's redemption, both in its grand sweep and in its specifics for us, over and over again.” (Rienstra, pg. 37). This seems appropriate as we here the power of God’s call even to those whom you might expect to have the greatest resistance. “Worship is not merely of looking backward toward the past but brings the truth of the past into the present”. While this is very common I think that references to God and the Holy Trinity, as gender neutral is more appropriate.
In the video after the communion service some of the congregation were asked how the service helped them to connect to God. They had much to say about their experience with God. Jim Anderson was reminded of the world awaiting us. Gloria Evanson spoke of being in fellowship with God. Craig Pinley seemed to understand much of the thematic efforts of the service.
