During my lesson, I communicated verbally in a slow, clear, and loud manner, in order for all students to best understand me. I also had students repeat our targeted vocabulary words and student-friendly definitions aloud, in order for students, especially English Language Learners, to continue developing language skills and to maximize language development. Throughout my lesson, I made sure to monitor students’ facial expressions in order to determine if any student was confused. When teaching new content, I make sure to repeat myself and to ask students if clarification is needed. I also make sure that I have visuals to match the selected terms or topic in order to provide students with a more thorough understanding and to support my explanations. Nonverbal communication also played an important role, specifically for behavior management. There were a few instances where students displayed negative behavior, in which I used non-verbal communication. For instance, a student was sharing their response, and other students were speaking to one another. I simply told that student to wait until their classmates are respectful, by listening and not speaking. After stating this, students continued to talk for a few seconds.
