When I started this subject I was anxious about being competent. I never finished school, as I only went to year 9. English was my least favourite subject; however, I love to write and read. I wrote my paragraph and went to six sites that were listed in the assignment brief and waited for a response. I was nervous and thought that the programs would tell me that my writing was not good; however, it did the opposite. On Paperrater, Grammarly, Grammar Base, there was nothing wrong with my writing in five out of six sites. The writer’s diet was the last page that I visited. On that page, it told me that my text was ‘flabby’ with nouns and verbs. I wrote a second set of paragraphs because the first review identified that I am a perfectionist and …show more content…
I will relearn basic grammar and English and make my knowledge more active by working on it daily. I will every week extended my disciplinary knowledge of the vocabulary used in teaching, this will be done by writing a list of unfamiliar words and actively learning how to use those words by gaining a clear understanding of what type of word they are and understanding their meaning. I will start with a dictionary for this component and actively try to implement those words into my notes so that it becomes an action. I will work on online and use the textbook to work on becoming proficient in the use of English and be able to actively recall the basics of Grammar and punctuation. I will also design a board game for my son and me to play that will identify nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns and punctuation. It is necessary for me to cement the basics before I try to improve my writing academically. I will use the internet and source Australian English worksheets and spend time working through these with my son 3 times a week. I understand that this could render me no marks for my assignment but being able to admit that my relationship with English is really rocky is the best that I can do. To understand the complex ideas of how to add adjectives, identifying nominalisations, passive voice in text and complex grammar is something I need to work on after I lay the

Writing has always been one of the most difficult skills that I have been learning through my college career, but it has also been the most important skill because unlike other skills writing affects my works across all courses or subjects. Writing has also helped me to get in to UMD, receive scholarships, and be accepted in research programs. Therefore, all the effort that I have made to improve my writing skill is worth it. From experience, writing is not like other skills that one can learn overnight, for me, writing skill is very slow progress and requires a lot of writing and reading; this is what I got from this class. Learning to write When I attended elementary school, part of the curriculum was penmanship. There was a certain segment of instruction dedicated to penmanship rather than writing. We were given large sheets of oat colored paper with three parallel lines widely spaced. The alphabets were used to print and write in cursive using the midpoint, and upper lines for capital letters. The handwriting grades were based on neatness and readability.…

“Writing Literacy Memoir” It 's strange how clearly I remember this paper ,where I can not remember what I did last week. It was a Thursday night sometime during May 2013 where it was a hot, humid night and I was exhausted. Where tomorrow I was supposed to start writing my paper about espionage agencies during the Cold War. It was a 10-page research paper on how the Cold War was impacted by the KGB, MI6, and CIA.…

To me, writing is just ok, nothing special. It definitely isn’t something I get excited about. My first formal writing class was in 6th grade, where we followed The Institute for Excellence in Writing’s curriculum. My fellow classmates and I mainly wrote short, 1-3 paragraph reports on various historical topics. I did well in these classes, I just never really enjoyed the process of writing.…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

When I first started the rhetoric, inquiry and critical writing course I was unaware of the specific flaws in my writing assignments. During this course not only did I figure out my own style of writing, but I also learned about other writing styles and how I could incorporate them into my own writing. The constructive criticism given by my peers and professor improved my way of writing. The hardest obstacle I had to face while writing was staying on topic. I gave too much information about a general topic instead of focusing on a small portion and brainstorming from there.…

In addition to these, I have tried exposing my writing to more people for feedback. If I do not spend long on a piece, I often overlook small typos or grammatical issues. I do not craft my words quite as carefully as I should. I also tend to be quite repetitive. I tried to have as many people as I could read over my writing having someone do that can highlight these issues and help me clean up my work.…

From the Mesopotamian civilization to the present day civilization, writing has taken a place of importance in our daily lives; something I have always struggled with. Through school the most difficult subject that I have always struggled with is English. Growing up my first language was Spanish due to the fact that my parents do know much English. My parents were never able to read to me in English preventing me from hearing and seeing the English language; it was not until I entered elementary school that I was exposed to English. This has contributed to my difficulties in English courses throughout my education.…
