This week’s notes and chapter reading was a huge help with our current assignment and creating speeches in general. One of the hardest things to do when considering giving a speech is choosing a topic and this gives you a few good suggestions and pointers on how to do it correctly with ease. I t is a good idea to keep in mind, when writing your speech, the general purpose of your speech. It states that you are probably giving a speech for one of two reasons which is to inform your listeners or persuade them. This is important because it will help you create the structure of your speech and get the right tone behind it as well. These are just general topics and I feel having this in mind already helps you start out but if you can determine a …show more content…
This provides many similar tips to the previous task of specifying your purpose but all these can also help create a central idea. I thought the best tip was to express your central idea in a statement and not in the form of a question. I can see why this would be harmful to the speech especially in a persuasive speech. If your central idea in a persuasive speech is a question, then people may all have different answers and even different from that of your own. This can create controversy because with their own ideas of what your speech is about in their head they may never realize where you stand on the specific …show more content…
One important one is making sure you do not have too many main points. In all likelihood if you have numerous main points some are closely enough related to where you can take one and sub-categorize it under an alternate main point. This will give good back up on one of your main points and will help narrow down your body for lengthy papers. I remember having this problem when I was a kid and I wanted to make everything a main point but then I had no supporting details. While making all the details my main topics I was just saying al the reasons I thought something was the way it was and I didn’t give any reasons to believe me. I learned quickly that I could just make some of my main points into very strong and leading supporting arguments and thus creating a nice structure as well as a flowing and orderly

Amanda Wilson Professor Leightenheimer English 1102-01 23 October 2017 Role and Pathos: How Eugene Debs Creates Relatability Crafting and reciting a speech can be an incredibly difficult requirement. The main difference between these and, for example, an essay, is that enunciation and delivery can make or break a speech. With this addition also comes extra importance on understanding and reading the responses of your audience to gauge effectiveness. Speeches need to have a form of an emotional pull to them, or else they sort of inadvertently transition to lectures rather than a form of persuasion. Actions can still be carried out in more logically oriented speeches, but that passion to push someone could be lost.…

After reviewing my persuasive speech over why the University of Oklahoma is the best university in the nation, I would sum up my speech as a little bit of train wreck. From this, I lost my audience’s belief that I was competent of the information I was reiterating to them. At the introduction of my speech I believe I started out fairly strong and gave a good run down of the coming speech.…

The idea of persuading and how to properly be persuasive can differ from person to person but the ancient Greek ideas of ethos, logos, and pathos(or ethical, logical, and emotional), always are incorporated into being persuasive in any situation. Sophocles’ story of Antigone, daughter and sister of Oedipus, shows Antigone as a rebellious character who believes her religion and morals over her government’s demands. Following a great battle both Eteocles and Polynices, brothers of Antigone, die and Eteocles receives a proper military burial and honouring but Polyneices is deemed a traitor and is left to rot in the fields and in turn being denied an afterlife. Finding this to be ridiculous and horrible, Antigone proceeds to bury him even after it being announced as illegal and punishable by death, declared by the recently appointed king her own uncle/brother Creon, and is inevitably caught.…

I had to try to figure out a way to not leave the reader thinking about the main idea. So, I took main parts out of my body paragraphs and put them in my conclusion. That way the person reading could see that they were not left hanging at the end of the story. Another confusing thing was putting evidence in my conclusion and trying to make in flow smoothly. One example is I took each main part from a paragraph and put it in order so it would not get the reader confused and make them quit reading.…
