General Overview: This week, I was able to meet with several different professionals within the Cedar Falls Community School District. I witnessed their responses to working with parents, students, and their colleagues. I have expanded on these experiences and more below.

The three of them discussed accommodations that could be met for a student transitioning to seventh-grade the following year. This student has severe vision problems and requires specific materials and instructions in order to

This is a student who I typically meet with once or twice a day. He often struggles to hold conversations with peers and adults. I have worked hard to build up his self-worth and get to know him outside of the school work he has to do. This student is generally always behind in classes. Therefore, I have to encourage him to get his homework done frequently. To my surprise, he was very social and humorous today. I felt so happy to see him laughing and engaging in conversation with ease. I definitely think his progress is partially due to my efforts to show him that he matters as a person first and a student second. I hope to continue to see his confidence …show more content…

After talking to this counselor, I realized that I would most likely rather work in an elementary or middle school in order to establish relationships and create lesson plans. Although I enjoy working with high school students, I am not sure if I would be as interested in the content of this

The School Counselor, as a Systems Change Agent must align principles of the school counseling program to work for the success of the academic mission of the school. Academic, career, and personal-social development for all students is the driving goal of the comprehensive and fully implemented counseling program and the counselor. However, I would emphasize that closing the achievement gap is a fundamental to practical and beneficial systems change. It requires a collaborative model of counseling that brings all resources together in support of direct dialogue of identified achievement gaps and barriers to success, and considerations for solutions to close the gap with help from teachers, parents, administration and professional school counselors…

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

ELAD690_52 M6 Discussion on Family Engagement As a new principal in an unfamiliar school, I would need to learn about existing family engagement by gathering data in order to develop an appropriate plan. According to Ferlazzo, “We need to relate to families, not as clients, but as partners in school and community improvement,” (2011, p. 10). Similarly, we need to engage all stakeholders in the community to support our schools, and educate teachers, that it is a misconception that providing parents with power does not decrease our control; rather, it increases the size of the pie to afford additional opportunities (Ferlazzo, 20011, p. 14).…
