Group Analysis: Aging Women In The Workplace

The group I was in consisted of four people where two of the group members were older women and the other group members were two people who were young women, I was in the younger group. We all worked in a office and had similar jobs but had the two older women who had more experience working in the office guided us in our jobs when we first started. While the older women were set as our leaders they still treated us like equals in the workplace. This can be seen as an Ethical Focus skill by giving new workers respect and aid when just learning how to run the office. This made both me and the other new girl feel that we were vital to the team and not afraid to ask questions when we were unsure of something. Another thing about facing problems especially with difficult customers is that there is a set procedure of how to act, reason, and respond. When helping a difficult customer we would treat them the same as a kind customer and never treat them without proper behavior. The older women showed us how to reason through difficult customers so that they no matter what received fair and proper treatment and would have the best outcome for their situation. These deciding methods when working with difficult customers can be seen as a form of Ethical Judgment. The older women explained to us newer workers how to reason properly and fairly no matter who the customer was or how they were acting, “These ethical theories help us define the problem, highlight important elements of the situation, force us to think systematically, encourage us to view the problem from a variety of perspectives, and strengthen our resolve to act responsibly” (Johnson 51). The last thing I will mention about my group is that the older women never treated us differently even though we were of different backgrounds and
