Reflection Of My Writing Class

Biographies to reading responses were a daily activity in high school, they consisted of responses to literary work to biographies of successful individuals. Biology classes, which i was in, required research on specific topics and responses in report format. I really enjoyed researching topics and interconnecting ideas and concepts in to an essay or research paper. Normally, the papers I wrote were from one to five pages in length, formatted in MLA format and double spaced. Instructors usually gave students guideline to follow on setup and length, but content was entirely up to the student. The content of the paper was graded the hardest, it had to cover the given topic well and describe your findings. This type of writing was very interesting to me, and gave me the opportunity to express myself without verbal expression. The papers I wrote, were not entirely time consuming for me. Writing papers usually took place during class time and if it was needed, finished at home. I personally believe …show more content…
I do in fact like to follow a style of writing that makes the content easier to understand for higher educated people. I believe it allows more sophistication in the words and make the writing more elegant and more interesting to the reader. Using dull words make the reader uninterested and detached from the subject at hand. This writing is different than what was read for school because it is more sophisticated and not as basic as normal high school text. I have had to write many speeches and essays to read in front of people at events. I had to write a speech for my high school graduation. The speech had to be that I had two audiences, the students and the parents. This writing was very different in that i had to address people in public and not just writing an essay for my English

When I came to college I struggled writing long papers because I was so focused on the length and not on what I was trying to say. I realize now that usually it is very easy to hit length requirements, but something you have to do is be able to make your wording concise. Some people think that you have to write things over and over again in different ways to make a paper long, which is what I saw a few times in my third draft of this essay. I know now that I will be able to write whatever length is necessary, but I need to focus more on my fluidity and clarity. I learned that having a concise three page paper is a lot better than having a poorly structured and not well thought out five page…

For the narrative, I had no problem writing, since everything was my own words. However, for the third essay, the research paper, it took time to find anything relevant to my argument, and moreover, it took time to actually like my topic, since it wasn’t what I wanted to do. The research took a large portion of my time, but the actual writing wasn’t too complicated. Although the increase in minimum word count became overwhelming at times, the work time in class allowed me to manage my time well, not needing to work a lot outside of school. I never procrastinated, and didn’t have to rush the night before it was due.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

If I was writing a paper that required a specific number of paragraphs or pages I would typically plan my paper using the four square method. If I was writing an important paper I would write a rough draft, then as I was typing it I would revise it and fix any mistakes I found. One thing that remained consistent in my writing process, no matter the type of paper, is after I wrote the paper I would try to find more grade level appropriate words instead of the simple words I originally used. While writing essays for this class I came to find it is better to combine my writing processes to write the best possible essay I could. I found the best steps for me to take in writing my paper are to write my ideas down in some form.…

The writing process is different and unique to all individuals; many people follow the ideal steps of prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing as opposed to others taking shortcuts, skipping steps, and going straight to editing. The writing process is the course one takes to get from prewriting to the publication of their essay; since everyone is a different, their writing process will also be different. For me, I believe that following the ideal writing process steps are a tremendous help to organizing my essay and spacing out the work throughout the time the assignment is assigned. To begin writing an essay I must first prewrite; to prewrite is to brainstorm ideas from the prompt by outlining, diagramming, clusterings, or…
