Practicum Experience Reflection

When I reflect on this semester and my practicum experience, the first thing that comes to my mind is motivation and drive. This is the first time I have actually felt comfortable enough to want to be in the classroom all day, everyday. This semester opened up my eyes in many different ways, and if anything, made me fall more in love with teaching and working with these students. After this practicum experience, I bring a new gift with me and that is confidence. I feel at easy in front of a group of students and truly feel that if my CT made me get up and help her teach, I could figure it out. Another gift I have is that I am able to be flexible for the needs of each student in the classroom. On multiple different occasions, I have had to work with a student one-on-one in the hall or help settle a behavior. I have learned that these types of experiences do not just stop because we are teaching. When I enter the classroom, I bring a special atmosphere with me that allows students to feel comfortable enough to want to talk with me and open up to me. I had one student tell …show more content…
My students should be able to get than instruction from being in my classroom. Life skills should be taught as well. I want my students to see myself being caring, respectful, making good choices, and always doing the right thing. The best way to teach these skills to your students is to model them yourself, as it is crucial to practice what you preach and remember you are a teacher, even when you are not in the classroom. I should not have to sit in front of my students and lecture about these ethics, they should be able to see them being done, with some guidance along the way. I love that my cooperating teacher does a class meeting once a week. During these meetings, they will talk about some of these ethics like, being respectful or bullying. This is a great way to get your students thinking and involved without telling them what to

An incident that impacted me significantly occurred when I was in the fifth grade. I was always a high achiever and an “A” student. Fortunately, my first practicum supervisor utilized various supervision models while supervising me. She utilized the psychodynamic approach by providing me with numerous resources to help me learn skills, yet she provided me with enough autonomy to learn on my own. We had open discussions during supervision and I felt she was very approachable and knowledgeable. As a new clinician, I appreciated feeling as if she was an expert and I trusted she was providing me with excellent teachings. My supervisor also utilized the developmental supervisor model assisting me in my growth.…

For the disability ministry project, we were asked to choose a practicum experience where we shadowed or spoke to someone helping someone with a disability. For my project I chose to spend some time in the class for disabled children at the high school I graduated from. Throughout the glimpse of time that was allotted for this particular practicum experience I learned a lot of exciting things about disabilities, but also made some disconcerting revelations. While spending the day at school I was able to interact with the students, teachers, and overall staff of the high school; gaining insights, perspectives, and forming thoughts on everything I had witnessed. From start to finish, my day back at school has left a lasting impression on me.…

Introduction My practicum site is with a company called Systemic Effects, which focuses on Marriage and Family Therapy. Due to my inability to sit in on sessions with clients, my observation was during a meeting between one of the therapist and a website designer that was going to help market the company. The licensed marriage and family therapist that I was observing has a bachelor’s degree in business, a master’s degree in mental health, and a PhD in marriage and family therapy. Due to this therapist’s degree in business, he is responsible for starting up Systemic Effects and maintaining the marketing and management aspect of the company.…

    • Respect the inherent dignity and worth of the children with whom they work with (NASET, 2007). The ethical statements I choose are the ones that interesting me the most. “Intervene professionally when a colleague’s behavior is illegal, unethical, or detrimental to individuals with exceptionalities”(CEC, 2010). I find this ethic the hardest for me because there are times when the principal at my school is the one whose behavior is negatively affecting the students I work with. While something should be said every time there is a situation many time there is nothing due to the fact the principal is our only evaluator.…

I personally have noticed many changes throughout this course. I mostly noticed how now I analyze my jobs more with my coworkers, bosses and myself. I have one job that I absolutely love and another one that I do not care for very much, I did not really understand why because I get along well with my coworkers and higher ups. As our course went on and I started to understand business some more I then realized why there were certain things that were shaping my views about my jobs. Having the opportunity to work in the classroom through practicum experiences has helped me understand how I can use my gifts and passions to benefit students. While observing during my practicum, I had the opportunity to help individual students particularly. While helping these students one-on-one, or in small groups, I developed a deeper understanding of how I interact with students. For example, as the semester progressed, I could tell the students built a stronger trust in me. This speaks to how I was able to help my students.…

There is one central element that I have learned by participating in this social problems course that I found essential to understanding sociology. The common aspect that was presented in about every discussion board topic for this course as a possible solution was education. Without the proper understanding and education for each topic that was provided for us to analyze, I would not have been able to accurately evaluate the various social problems we encountered throughout the semester. This course helped broaden my concepts and ideas that I can use to now use to improve my sociological imagination and apply them to other social problems I might encounter in future courses.…

Due to the fact that my job focuses on children instead of adults, I believe it is very important to students formulate their own moral ideals throughout their schooling. Many schools focus on character traits of the month, which I think is very important in the creation of young children’s moral ideals. Since a lot of what my moral philosophy is focuses on the development of good character traits (and riding oneself of bad ones), I feel like my career is very well suited for me. Most of what I will want to focus on with student is the understanding of what is right and wrong. Since children learn a lot about rules and regulations from their schooling, I know that it’ll be important to be a good role model for…
