My family extended subsystem when I was growing up included my grandmother on my parent’s side. My mother’s mom helped care for my sisters and I growing up. My grandmother was always there to help my mom taking some stress off of her. Growing up we would go to my grandmother’s house every Sunday. It was when she passed away that we stopped seeing my mom’s side of the family as frequently. My father’s mom lives in Massachusetts we see her on holidays and family functions along with the rest of my dad’s family. My mother’s father passed away when she was a little girl and my grandfather on my dad’s side passed away when I was very young and I did not have relationship with him. Reflecting on my family a preference that is important to me is the value of sports. The value of sports has impacted my life greatly. This preferences within my family have influenced my life. I grew up playing sports since I was three years old and still play in recreational leagues today. Sports instilled characteristics in myself that have made me the person I am today. Sports have taught me the importance of teamwork and determination which is applied consistently in my life. Reflecting on my family we need to balance cohesion. Right now, in my family my mom functions with a high level of enmeshment. One of my sisters is currently looking for an apartment to move in with her boyfriend and my mom wants them to stay in Cranston so that they will be close to our family home. My sister is okay with a 30-minute drive home and my mom is very unhappy with it. My mom needs to work on balancing her cohesion to accept that my sisters and I are getting older. As I reflect on my family and the need for a balanced cohesion my family is very close, I recognize this has shaped who I am
