Analysis Of Morthyn Brito II

For this museum project I decided to take a visit to the Perez Art Museum Miami. During my trip to the museum I really connected emotionally with what I viewed, furthermore comprehending my perspectives in comparison to the intent of each art piece. Symbolically the most beautiful piece was a painting of a man, who in my opinion represented modern power. The painting is titled, "Morthyn Brito III," by the artist is Kehinde Wiley, who was born in the United States of America. Wiley finished and published this painting in 2011. The depth and meaning of its representation in modern day spoke loudly to me. Apart from the beautifully crafted paint strokes, the concept of the piece was really awesome. For this painting, Kehinde Wiley found inspiration from the old European aristocracy. The painting is a younger, black man who is wearing a hoodie on his head with a graphic tee. Surrounding the man is gold and black vines, in which some cross over onto him. His posture and form is incredibly straight and focused. Wiley's intent of this painting was to propose the idea of …show more content…
Her work is known to sustain exquisite Surrealism. Khedoori's exhibit consisted light, delicate paintings that completely drew my attention. This exhibit of hers was her largest of all, consisting of 25 compositions that date from 1984 to present day. Walking through her exhibit I can remember feeling intensely tranquil. All of her artwork stimulated motivation to connect, observe and feel. Her compositions felt very real, humble and vividly constructed with time, effort and emotion possessing each piece. Khedoori has a sense of allowing people to really connect with her art by making us desire to know and understand her. Generously enough, at the beginning of the exhibit there were two large paragraphs with vivid descriptions of her

Observing “Abiel McIntosh, After Pontrmo” brings about mixed feeling I have towards this artwork. “Abiel McIntosh, After Pontrmo” was made in 2010 by Kehinde Wiley with oil on canvas and this piece follows a series of similar style artworks by Wiley which he asks young black men to model, and then shows the men a range of classical paintings from which they pick their preferred pose. Just like “Abiel McIntosh, After Pontrmo,” the other pieces are closely related in structure and style. For “Abiel MccIntosh” the use of a floral background and having the models blend in seamless into the background with elaborate clothing and a glaring stare by the model gives the sense of empowerment.…

Tastefully developed and carefully curated, The Meadows Museum at Southern Methodist University now holds one of the largest collections of Spanish art outside of Spain. The museum prides itself on displaying widely diversified paintings, a statement I do not fully agree with. Although the two-story museum’s walls are furnished with with a wide variety of subject content there is a chauvinistic sense about their collections. I am not saying there is an unequal ratio of male to female portraits because there isn’t. The museum has a plethora of women as subjects, but they only seem to only display women painted by men.…

Throughout the painting a person can see other symbols that have importance in the African American community. You see a poster of Laryn Hills album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. This album won a Grammy award in 1998. This is something that was iconic in our history because it celebrates our black heritage and people still listen to those songs today. The banners reflection in the mirror shows that it reads “School of beauty, School of Culture.”…

The "Anatomy Series" was the most interesting piece I appreciated on my visit to the Perez Art Museum Miami. Roberto Fabelo, a Cuban painter, is the author of this peculiar series of drawings. This set of art is based on pages from an Anatomy book with certain representation of human organs and systems. The author uses the original drawing in the page to recreate and integrate it to his own creation. Fabelo's peculiar style gives as a result a series of smart, graphically detailed, bold, spicy creatures: half human, half divine.…

As I walked through the museum, I looked for a piece of art that spoke to me on a personal level, having picked a Mexican Museum it wasn’t hard seeing a sculpture or painting and relating it to my childhood or connecting it to my visits to Mexico. As I was leaving, I stopped by a colorful painting that really grabbed my attention, and looked at the description and the painting for some time. I was with my younger brother and had explained to him the details of the museum visit for this class, and told him I had trouble finding a painting. He looked around and his eyes landed on the same painting that I was analyzing moments before and with a smirk he said to choose that one. The painting is by Oscar Moya and is called Nopal En La Frente/Cactus…

The famous quote from George Santayana “Those who can not remember the past are condemned to repeat it”, underlies the cruciality and importance of preserving our historical past, due to the belief that history itself would always resonate and reoccur throughout the spectrum of time. In encouragement to the preservation of our history, Daniel Boyd’s artwork ‘Untitled PSM’ (2014) conveys the idea of how the trajectory and movement of historical knowledge that is passed back and forth becomes lost and forgotten throughout time. As a result, due to this lost of information we are conditioned with the inability to fully comprehend our past or to a larger extent, even the possibilities of the future. ‘Untitled PSM’ is a large oil and archival glue…

Wiley’s artwork depicts young men and women of color from various parts of the world. Some of these men and woman are portrayed assuming the poses of Classical European paintings of aristocrats, royalty, and noblemen. By replacing the historical figures with everyday men and women the artist brings attention to the absence of African Americans from cultural and historical events. In Wiley’s painting WILLEM VAN HEYTHUYSEN, he depicts a young black man in the same pose as the Haarlem cloth merchant, Willem van Heythuysen.…

For my museum visit paper, I decided to go to the Dali Museum. On my visit, I encountered a painting created by Salvador Dali titled “Gala Contemplating the Mediterranean Sea, which at Twenty Meters Becomes the Portrait of Abraham Lincoln”. Dali was born in Figueres, Spain in 1904 and was mainly a surrealist painter. This artwork was created around 1976 and it was painted using oil and collage on canvas. The style of this artwork would be considered surrealism, because of its irrational use of juxtaposition images.…

El Anatsui is an inspirational African artist who has inspired the work of many other artists in the contemporary age. He is a mentor to other creative artist who devotes their lives for changing the way people see art, especially African art. In the article, “A Nomad’s Revolutionary Beauty,” the author, Elizabeth Harney, challenges the views of museums and critics about El Anatsui works and how it is limited when put in museums. El Anatsui’s artwork expresses a deeper, global, personal meaning, which is often being limited by museums and critics because of their approach of displaying his art in certain exhibitions. One of the main problems in museums, is the curators have a habit of installing El Anatsui’s work in the exhibitions of African and Contemporary sections.…

The most fascinating thing about art is the difference and diversity between works of art. The drastic uniqueness of arts between periods is something that is interesting to look at because one gets to see how much changes can be made due to cultural influences and time. After visiting the Met and seeing the works of art in person, I have chosen the Statute of Dionysus Leaning On A Female Figure and the Standing Buddha Offering Protection to explore in depth. The Standing Buddha Offering Protection is an Indian sculpture made during the late 5th century. It is only 85.5cm tall and it is constructed out of red sandstone.…
