The story first takes place in Pondicherry, India; where Pi Patel and his family live and are the zookeepers of the Pondicherry Zoo. Pi lives a life surrounded by animals and feeling in harmony with the animals around him. Pi loves living in India but when his parents propose moving to Canada with their animals to sell, he can do nothing but do so. Pi talks about how religion affected him in India and at sea. The stories of the three religions Pi followed taught him about patience and love, which helped him deal with the situation he was in. Another important theme for the book is the idea of story, which is clearly shown by the book being told from future Piscine telling the story. This theme is also shown once Pi gets rescued and is asked to tell what happened. Pi has been shown as being an honest and mature person through the story, yet his stories are not believed completely because of the roles of animals and the interactions he had. But nonetheless, his story was accepted and as Pi said in the beginning to the writer: “I have a story that will make you believe in
