Communication Class Reflection

When I registered for this class, I thought it was going to be easy peasy. I was so wrong! I was actually quite frustrated with the amount of time and effort I had to put into a freshman level communications class. On average, I would say I spent about 6 hours a week completing my assignments. This number slightly changed depending on the assignments due that week. After getting over my initial attitude, I tried to not let negative thoughts get in the way of my work. Throughout the semester I found myself thinking “I’m not in the mood to do this work, I’ll do better on my forums/pondering points next week.” It was difficult trying to overcome those thoughts, but I knew if I kept this mindset, my grades would show and it would be too …show more content…
I guess the reason for this was my fear of revealing too much of my personal experiences to someone I did not know. After receiving feedback on my work, I realized I needed to go into further detail. I learned how to withhold extremely personal experiences, but at the same time saying just enough to fulfill the assignment. I became more in touch with my past and was able to use what I learned from the book and apply it to my life. I would like to be able to think more critically and elaborate on my ideas. I feel I already do a decent job at that, but there is always room for improvement. This is important because I will be able to view things from several perspectives and compare it to my initial thought. I would work on this by rereading information until I have a complete understanding of it and write down my ideas. I would come back to my work at a later time to see if I thought of any new ideas that would contribute to my initial response. Time management has sometimes been a challenge for me, especially during college. This class has helped me with resolving that issue. I learned that I could not wait for the last day to submit my initial post and expect to receive a decent amount of replies. I found that it was less stressful if I completed my initial response towards the beginning of the week and work on my replies little by little until

Honestly, in the beginning of this class, I had an overwhelming impression about the modules that I needed to complete in 9 weeks span. Additionally, I had a hard time figuring out the logic behind the little assignments. I felt like I am just wasting my time. My time this quarter is very limited between work, school, and personal responsibilities. But then, as the assignments progresses, it started to make sense, that those little assignments were essential.…

This assignment seemed just like any other. There was a deadline and guidelines and goals that were going to dictate the structure of it. I, however, didn’t know that I was wrong, and it was going to be far from any other. I have a habit, a detrimental one, that was slowly being fed and reassured as “ok” the more and more I went through my schooling. That habit has a name, procrastination, yet I never saw it as a problem because with every assignment and paper I wrote the night before and was able to get a decent grade, there was this unconscious signal that reassure me that if done once, it could be done again.…

The day we expected to get our assignments back, I felt calm and confident. When I received my paper and saw what my grade was and the comments my teachers made, my whole mood changed. The grade and the remarks were nothing of what I expected, and the grade was well below what I normally score. After this assignment I started to give up because I did not think I would ever do as good and that my writing, in fact, did not improve at all, but Mrs. Moore told me not give up and to keep trying. The talk we had made me realize that I need to learn from this experience and continue to work hard and do my absolute best.…

I would like to begin my explaining my background and touching base on how I ended up at this University. I am a transfer student from a Community College in Upstate New York called Herkimer Community College. Along with graduating from Herkimer, I also started playing lacrosse there was well.…

I knew that college was going to be a great deal of work because of the experience that I had during Summer Bridge. The Summer Bridge schedule was extremely packed with very little free time, which made it difficult to complete assignments. I frequently stayed awake into the late hours of the night in order to finish homework. Although my schedule is currently not as strenuous as it was during Summer Bridge, I still find it difficult to meet the expectations my courses. EDS 50 is the class that I am taking because it is a mandated component of my scholarship and it is also my least stressful class out of the four that I am enrolled in.…

The lessons the workshop taught the children that went through it was invaluable. We hope that we as adults show our children learn from us the mistakes of the past and treat people equally. A lot of times unfortunately people have stigmata’s either put on them by society because of how they look or they put them on themselves and people treat them differently. The lessons that this workshop teaches are lessons that everyone should have. You can spend our entire life trying to instill the values in your children that this class does in two days, and I want my children to be kind to people as we all do; I do not want them to ALIENATE someone because they are not the same as them, different ETHNITICIY or part of a MINORITY GROUP.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

I was born a long while ago on a cold Monday morning in February. Since that fateful day, I have never stopped going. Through rushing around, joining one club or another, I never had the time to sit and relax or to sleep for the recommended eight hours a night. This hectic life of mine did not pick up until last year. There were three a.m. nights, nine p.m. school days, and never any time to do homework or to think about where I was going next.…

I felt very uneasy and awkward throughout the entire experience. I have focused on one issue that stood out the most for me and discussed this in detail. The issue was that my communication skills were ineffective due inexperience. I had not dealt with a patient experiencing a miscarriage until this placement which made me feel unprepared.…

I took two classes for the summer of 2016, but the Interpersonal Communication class had me worried the most. I had a training with the army, and that required me to absence from school for two weeks. Unlike my other class, I didn’t have a chance to work ahead of the class with the instructor for the two weeks that I would be missing. Therefore, I was worried that I wouldn’t catch up with my classmates and end up failing the class. However, Ms. Anna was generous and extended the assignment due date for me; she even gave me an extra-credit assignment to replace the credits that I missed during my two weeks in training.…
