Communication Class Reflection

When I registered for this class, I thought it was going to be easy peasy. I was so wrong! I was actually quite frustrated with the amount of time and effort I had to put into a freshman level communications class. On average, I would say I spent about 6 hours a week completing my assignments. This number slightly changed depending on the assignments due that week. After getting over my initial attitude, I tried to not let negative thoughts get in the way of my work. Throughout the semester I found myself thinking “I’m not in the mood to do this work, I’ll do better on my forums/pondering points next week.” It was difficult trying to overcome those thoughts, but I knew if I kept this mindset, my grades would show and it would be too …show more content…
I guess the reason for this was my fear of revealing too much of my personal experiences to someone I did not know. After receiving feedback on my work, I realized I needed to go into further detail. I learned how to withhold extremely personal experiences, but at the same time saying just enough to fulfill the assignment. I became more in touch with my past and was able to use what I learned from the book and apply it to my life. I would like to be able to think more critically and elaborate on my ideas. I feel I already do a decent job at that, but there is always room for improvement. This is important because I will be able to view things from several perspectives and compare it to my initial thought. I would work on this by rereading information until I have a complete understanding of it and write down my ideas. I would come back to my work at a later time to see if I thought of any new ideas that would contribute to my initial response. Time management has sometimes been a challenge for me, especially during college. This class has helped me with resolving that issue. I learned that I could not wait for the last day to submit my initial post and expect to receive a decent amount of replies. I found that it was less stressful if I completed my initial response towards the beginning of the week and work on my replies little by little until

A couple things I would change are how I plan out developing the speech and how much to practice it. For developing the speech, I need to be sure of what exactly I want to talk about at the interview. I felt that my questions were interesting, but a couple were somewhat unneeded. However, I came to the conclusion that it is better to have too much than not enough for an interview because I had enough information to work with. Also, I should have taken more time to thoroughly practice my speech out loud in front of others.…

The only problem is that I am not sure what or how this moment will happen; as of now I have no clear solution as what needs to change in class. I believe that simply by thinking ahead to the next couple of weeks, better preparing my lessons, and creating/finding engaging video clips for examples can help alleviate the situation, but I do not think it is a total solution. By taking the first step towards reengaging maybe I can gain momentum for the rest of the semester or maybe as students realize class is drawing to an end now is the time to really make an effort with their grades. I plan to discuss with Dr. Paul how we can make the assignments more interactive during class time and I am optimistic this will may be feel more…

Overall, I prioritized on doing my assignments and studies rather than other activities and this utilized my free time. Although this week went well, there can be some barriers in the future that can make me unable to maintain my regular schedule. So, in order to make it smooth, it will also include setting a goal because it will help me stay focused. Since reading and writing are the most to gain academic success, my goal will be studying and giving priority to my all coursework like of this week. This should be both outlining the paper beforehand, and working out how long I have to write my paper. Having an overhead view will help me start writing sooner and ensure time at the end to edit what I’ve written. Structuring my writing time will make my use of time more effective. Setting smaller goals will help me get a clear idea of how my paper is going. This will also improve…

I struggled during the first part of the semester on trying to make sure all the work got done and to not become stressed out and overwhelmed. My goals and expectations for the future are nothing but improving and learning newer ways that can help me when writing papers for college. Taking this class would have to be one of the best and worst decisions I have made, do to the long nights full of stress, and the knowledge I have gained from taking the…

I wanted to make sure that my tone of text was not too formal or informal, so I really focused on that part of my paper. In addition, I needed a good interpretation on my audience. If someone were to read my paper, I would not want to leave that reader with any questions at the end of my paper. I focused on going through my paper to make specific changes to make my paper clearer to understand for my intended audience. With my profile letter, peer review did not do much for me on this particular assignment.…

I used them to make my point instead of support to my point. After speaking with you about my Writing Project 2 rough draft I set to work and reworked some of the stories I included, which I was too attached to at the time to completely remove. I added more of my thoughts and opinions and tried to write with a little less intention of pulling at the heartstrings of the reader. Slowly throughout the semester I successfully weaned myself off of them completely. Not to say that I will not use them in the future, but for this semester I wanted to gain more writing experience without what was already a strong point of mine in order to sharpen my other skills.…

There are a few things that I know are weaknesses of mine that I need to learn more about. For example, I can confidently identify the students who need extra help and am able to different my instructions to their needs, however, it is hard for me to give challenges to the stronger students. I definitely need to work on this. I think the best way to do this is with practice. The more gifted students I come across the better I will be at adapting my lesson to challenge them.…

    Essay On Teacher Identity

We started the first day of this course talking about teacher identity. I do not think my opinion about my identity as a teacher has changed drastically during the semester. I did change some aspects of the way I teach, however I still do not completely identify myself as a teacher. That is because I am a graduate student and I want to be successful as a student, before being successful as a teacher. I enjoy teaching right now, but I think that when being a teacher will be my full time job, then my opinion about my teacher identity will change more.…
