Kindergarten Teacher Observations and Post Conferences Mrs. P taught for 15 years, and is entering her third year teaching Kindergarten at Jefferson. During our pre-conference Mrs. P and I reviewed the Danielson framework and discussed the lessons she wanted me to observe. Mrs. P asked me to observe her working one on one with a student, and teaching a whole group reading lesson.
I entered Mrs. P’s classroom on September 9th at 2:10 pm. Students had come in from last recess at 2:05. Twenty-four students were settled, sitting on a square rug, eating their snack, and listening to the paraprofessional as she read a children’s book aloud to them. Mrs. P was in the back room working with one student. Mrs. P and the student were sitting side by

C’s classroom at 2:05 pm. Sixteen students were sitting on the carpet with Mrs. C, and reading from the science text book. Four students were sitting at their desk working independently, and one student was in the hallway working one on one with the paraprofessional. Once Mrs. C and the students were done reading about the three types of rocks, Mrs. C had the students go back to their desks, had the students working on work independently join in, and showed a youtube video reviewing the three types of rocks. While watching the video Mrs. C asked students to write down 1 fact, for each kind of rock. After the video was over Mrs. C referred students to a chart on the back bulletin board with three section (each of the rock types). Mrs. C divided the students into three groups, and had students fill in the chart for their rock type. When I left the observation, students were working in small groups, writing facts on sticky …show more content…
The practice of simply sitting down with teachers can be easily taken for granted, but it’s an effective way to build relationships and promote transparency. I gained more respect and understanding of my colleagues after observing them. Their love of their craft and their students was apparent. Both teachers had very different teaching styles, and were effective and reflective in their own way. A quick thirty minute observation gave me insights into their strengths, and also gave me insight into their students. I also found during the reflection process, both teachers were more critical of themselves than I was. Throughout our discussions the teachers were able to articulate their vision, expectations, and hopes for the school year. Also, after each post conference, the teacher had a clear set of goals, and I had a better understanding of where each teacher was in each of the domains (using the Danielson Framework). Lastly, I grew throughout this process. I became more comfortable in my ability to observe teachers, as well as my ability to discuss my

Classroom two observations: kindergarten. Classroom two began with language arts activities and focused mainly on utilizing group reading. Students sat in a circle around the teacher as the teacher showed picture stories on a projector. The teacher modeled how students should use the term “Stretch Power,” such as remembering “EEEEEEE” for eating, as well as the term “Picture Power” to determine new words. Before the students came to the classroom, I placed their morning cursive worksheets on their desks. Mrs. Jackson gave me a copy of her lesson plans for the week (which she must hand in to the principal every Monday morning by 8:00). Today Mrs. Jackson did not greet the students at the door, but worked in her classroom as the students came in. Mrs. Jackson began the class by introducing the website, www.pearsonsuccessnet.com to the students. This is a website that goes with their reading book, which students can log on to at home to practice vocabulary words, reading stories, and taking quizzes.…

She also makes arrangements for the student to take English tests in her classroom because most of the time she has to read the test to the student. She also teaches phonetics using the Phonics Blitz program which is used to focus on vowel + consonant= word sounds. I am glad I got to witness this class; it was a learning experience for myself too. Lastly, Mrs. Ensminger took me to the level 3 special education classrooms and I had the opportunity to sit in and observe. Some were reading with their teacher, some of them where working in a computer vocabulary game by themselves, and others during that time, were in the care of a registered nurse.…

To learn more about a teachers point of view in a classroom I held an interview with a teacher that I will refer to as "Amy" for the purpose of this assignment. For this interview I sent her the questions by email a few days before and she filled them out and sent them back to me. While conducting the interview, I brought the questions and we went over them accordingly. That being said, Amy has a master 's degree in early childhood education and a reading endorsement. She has been teaching for about twenty years in grades first through fourth.…

During group reading time I or one of the other teachers or helpers in the classroom would pull a group of four or five kids to the group table to read a book related to what their teacher was teaching that week. As we read the book each student would take time to read, and show the group how to sound out the different vocabulary. The observation of the group time, showed me my target student’s ability to develop his own option of the book, his reasoning on why an event in the book happened, and his representation of the book.…

Once situated in my seat i sit my closed folder under my desk and small talk with my table on how we are all so prepared for the spelling test we were about to get handed to us in a few short minutes. After a short lecture from our teacher about having our desk clear and to have a pencil ready she tells us to get out a piece of paper and write our first and last name in the top right corner. I did as told and i am now ready to begin, although i'm feeling kind of tired i shake of the feeling and blink a few times. She said the first word, i write it down confidently and sit my head on my desk, i repeat that until the 7th or 8th word; when i looked up from my desk i see a yellow piece of paper, only paper that color is an office referral. I look up at my teacher highly confused and she tells my to hand her my folder i sat…
