Natchiketa Upanishad Analysis

Improved Essays
When reading and studying the Upanishads I recognized the shifting influence that the principles of the text has had upon me through my experience of time. Specifically in the Katha Upanishad, Natchiketa’s interactions gave me insight into my own with Yama, Lord of death.

I can recall standing at my Cha Cha Nancy’s home where my great-grandmother rested quietly. Her paper thin skin was withered like the sides of a wind shaped mountain and she lay with her eyes closed, arms crossed, on a hospice bed with bars for me to climb on and inch closer. This transition of life I could not comprehend, and the pain that it brought to those I loved was engraved into my thought processes. This was expressed by my unconscious mind as I slept. I began to

On the way to picking up my sister from work my dad explained that he was going to let my sister practice driving with her new permit. I objected due to my uncomfortability with her behind the wheel but to no avail, we began our journey. A few miles down the freeway, she hit the rumble strips. This was not something she had experienced before and her reaction was to flee. She jerked the steering wheel far to the left, at seventy miles per hour we were flying towards the median, her reconciliation was to jerk the wheel all the way back. In this moment, I withdrew beyond the “duality of subject and object” (76) into a realm of emptiness and peace. I can not recall the flipping of the vehicle, the two hundred feet that we slid upon the roof and concrete, or even my exit. This experience in the abyss was momentarily transient, an earthly treasure that grew to became eternal. I realized the Self as I passed “from fearful fragmentation to fearless fullness in the changeless whole” (80) then returned to my mind and body, hugging a woman I never met before. I looked back at the upturned car to see my father’s leg bleeding out of the window. This lit the fire of Nachiketa in me, “through the grace of the Lord of Love” (79) I was again confronted with the fear of non-existence in myself and others that reined my mind (81) since youth. I had little control over the direction of my thoughts, my senses overwhelmed me, and my once one-pointed mind was diluted with anxiety over the present situation. It wasn’t until integrating my realized Self with the unity surrounding me, that I relaxed once

Give examples of how the practice of ministry has affected your experience and understanding of A) God At the core of my understanding of God is a God of love in covenantal relationship with God’s children. Romans 8:38-39 says it well; “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The practice of ministry has only proven to strengthen that belief. I was called early Saturday morning to sit with a family who had just learned of the death of their daughter/granddaughter in a vehicle accident.…

In my seventeen years of living, I have gone through my fair share of tragedies. Yes, at seventeen years old. I have seen a marriage fall apart and a family member die right before my eyes. But even after all this, I’ve learned that everything happens for a reason and life shouldn’t be taken so seriously besides all the misfortunes it could throw at us. All of my family lives in Nicaragua, so growing up my mother and I would travel every time we had the chance.…

Either to live with you, your little sister Carly who was now eight, but you still thought of her as a baby, and your mother; or he went with Satan. The flicker of a lamp powered by a dimly lit lightbulb flashed in intervals onto the cracked concrete path. Scattered shrub shavings, dried pine needles, and petrified insects encrusted the crevices left in between the cement squares. The long and narrow path led up to a strong yet aged wooden door that stood at the foot of the house. The house held nine people, three cats, and many tribulations to come. At first glance the house might’ve seemed ordinary; it had five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a laundry room, living room, kitchen etc.…

HLTH 113 – Patient Assessment Paper Instructions Last week I was walking towards the park minding on my own business while taking my usual walk. It was a beautiful day, the sun was warm and bright, at the distance birds were signing and dogs were barking; I had my earphones plugged in my ears and the Luke Bryan song “Do I” was playing. The fresh breeze were gently touching my skin and blowing death leaves away. From the earliest dawn of time, the use of heat and warmth have been essential for human survival. Fire is how the human civilization cooked their food to avoid the dangers of eating raw meats. Now, with the readily available sources of heat at our fingertips, we haven’t really needed to know how to start a fire with two sticks unless we want to impress our friends on a camping trip. Even though fire helps us to survive, fire also destroys our homes and even our forests. Fire has become a symbol for our lives and it can be found in the common phrases we say every day, like: “I have this fire burning inside me that keeps me motivated”.…
