I/O Psychology Class Reflection

This class has been a tremendous help for me this semester. With transferring in, this class has helped me to solve problems or at least get me on the right path to do so, by the content that was provided. Going into the first day of class I thought I had everything figured out as far as what I wanted to do within the psychology field. I thought I wanted to go into Neuropsychology research with a private practice on the side. After hearing about how many career choices there are out there, it got me to reconsider and think that there might possibly be something out there that fits my personality even better, something that I would have never considered or heard about otherwise. For example, I/O psychology is something that I would have never …show more content…
How to be a good student. Noting taking for example, the idea that typing notes doesn’t achieve too much for learning because you are so fluid with the skill were as writing requires one to think about what is being written therefore creating a better encoding environment. Time management was also something that gave me a few tips. I have a planner that helps me keep track of all upcoming assignment, test, quizzes, etc. but that point of making a weekly To-Do list not only to prioritize activities but also reminding you of something was great. To add on the idea of scheduling study and fun time was new as well. If you put it in the schedule you are more likely to do it rather than studying whenever you have a few minutes to spare. A skill set that I don’t people really think about, but I’m glad we briefly covered was how to approach professors. How you should interact with them. That something as automatic as asking what you missed in class and if it was important, may seems minor to a student but is a major red flag for professors. Or on the opposite spectrum, going in and asking a question or two about class during offices hours helps a student but also shows that professor that you care and want to

This semester in history, we talked about many things that I would not think about on a daily basis outside of school. Our lessons made me think in new ways about different concepts. The two things that made me most interested were learning about the Dakota Access Pipeline involving the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and the requirements for voting for the President of the United States. DAPL made me more aware of our environment and realize how one thing could drastically affect so many areas of our world. It also made me see that there are many cons but there are also many pros.…

Inside Out A movie “inside out” by pete docter is about how five emotions grapple the control of an 11 year old girl. I realised after watching the movie it's much more than a kids movie. It demonstrates how our mines worked by different types of emotions in this movie, the girl mind was controlled by anger, disgust, fear, sadness and joy. This emotions and many more show how we act and what we show. It shows us that we tend to deal with our emotions that we have experienced by avoiding the bad feelings and the bad problems.…

I initially signed up for PSYCH 1101 to fulfill a distribution requirement, but it turned out to be so much more for me. Having never been exposed to psychology in high school, I was curious to see what psychology was and whether I would like or not. Turns out, I liked it a lot. Taking PSYCH 1101 seemed to open my eyes to a whole new branch of science. The reason psychology interests me is because I can directly apply many of the studies not only to my own behaviors and thought processes, but also to the actions of those around me.…

Being formal and asking only questions is something that can make the relationship between student and teacher successful. Also I enjoyed learning about the behaviors of how not to act during class, and how to be an engaged learner and a good note takes. The idea of how to make people like you also stuck out to me, and made me think of how I can just simply listen to what others have to say and just smile and relate to what they are saying and this will make them feel more understood and welcomed as a friend. Lastly, the one topic that I thoroughly took to heart was the idea of preparing for a lecture before the lesson.…

In the beginning of second semester I was being introduced into Psychology 101 which I had no idea on what this course will be teaching. As I just know the word “PSY” it would be mentioning about physical or something to do with the body. Then, doing some research about what Psychology will be teaching about from YouTube. Also, reading some articles from this website on what they will be mentioning about what the body will reacts to some situations. In the past months as learning about the basic about Psychology 101 this would be an advantage in taking the next step of becoming a police officer which I could use it to think like a victim and mange an issue or situation into peace that everything could be resolved in a matter of a way.…

One the most significant things that I learned in introduction to human services this semester was that everyone experiences situations differently, what might be something unimportant and minor to you might be a trigger for someone else. You should always be mindful of others, I think us as human beings we tend to be a bit selfish and like to think that the world revolves around us. Which, is ridiculous because the world has 7.3 billion people and counting, and what makes me more significant than all those other people? Sometimes I’ll go out to the store in a hurry and I’ll get a line with a cashier that is being extremely slow, and I get upset and start thinking of some nasty things about the cashier, without ever taking into consideration what that person might be going through.…
