As the conversation progressed, I began to gradually get angry and angrier until I could no longer hold in the frustration that I was feeling inside. I also felt hurt and betrayed by Fr. X. Fr. X began our session with a serious and calm demeanor. However, his mood seemed to change quite quickly after I shared with him my joy and the plans that I had made for that day. X can assist me in attaining further spiritual maturity by helping me to take into account the fact that Jesus also suffered at the hands of those whom he loved. As a Christian and future pastoral minister, I need to be aware of the fact that I too will suffer like Christ did when I minister to others. As Fr. Shayne Craig says, “There’s no resurrection without the suffering of the cross.” In terms of emotional maturing, I need to work on keeping my emotions in check. I realize that I can do this by being better aware of my emotional state, and also by preparing myself to deal with these kinds of potential situations. I could also talk to other formators at the seminary about how I can better deal with these types of cases. And finally, concerning social maturity, I acknowledge that I need to continue to maintain my respect for those in authority, even if they do not use that authority well. However, I will carry on sticking up for my rights and those of other people who have been treated poorly by individuals in positions of power. I will also try to give others the benefit of the doubt in difficult and troubling situations—presuming that they mean well unless it is apparent that they do

I’ve usually learned in hard way because frankly, I love to challenge myself to expand my personal capacity. Although I had already talked to one of my classmates about having interview with her as a Caucasian woman, I decided to do it with my cousin’s friend, Jacob, who I met in my place for the first time during Thanksgiving holidays. Interviewing Jacob about his interactions with other cultures has made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the meaning of the privilege and holding it. Jacob was a 24-year-old Caucasian, who lived in Missouri his entire life. Though he was visiting California for the second time in his life, he was in a Persian house for the first time.…
