Reflection Essay For English Class

First off, I would like to once again thank you for reading my e-Portfolio and my cover letter, it means a lot to me that someone is taking time out of their day, even if they do not have a choice, to read my work over all the other wonderful e-Portfolios that have been created for this class.
For me, Writing 102 was a way for me to learn how I can take my existant writing skills and apply them to a style and format more befitting of a college student. This class taught me a variety of necessary skills like making citations but also taught me how to write longer papers, improve how I write sentences, and even reminded me of some grammatical rules I had forgotten a long time ago. At this current moment in time, I am working to get myself on the proper academic path to becoming a secondary English teacher, and in that profession I will always need to know and use my writing skills to be successful. Developing these skills will allow me to use them in the future to

However, I have never been a fan of podcasts, my attention span has simply never been long enough to listen to one, so I was afraid that I would have trouble finding a topic using a podcast. The day after we were given the assignment to draft the essay, I decided to listen to an episode while on a train home, purely to get it over with, but surprisingly I enjoyed the podcast and had very little trouble finding a subject for my paper. The process of writing the paper was not incredibly difficult but it did end up becoming challenging once I had to start finding sources, but I did end up finding everything I needed. The process would have been a lot harder if my professor had not shown the class how to use the library’s databases, and citing it would have been impossible if we had not read the entire MLA handbook, so I am happy we took the time in class to address these

Portfolio reviewers: My pre-ECU 2201 experience was my English 1100 course. While taking this class online, I learned how to make an interesting essay. Though this class didn 't require much research, it taught me how to write an interesting essay. Most of the time the professor gave us the decision to write whatever we wanted to write on. There might been some times where he wanted us to write a specific topic, but still had the chance to write whatever we wanted within the topic.…

After choosing a video, I sat down to start my research on the library databases. I looked up multiple different search strings and more thoroughly read through the sources that I was choosing. Next, I picked important and relevant quotes that I wanted to base parts of my paper around. That was easy and fun until the intimidation set in that I was about to start my very first APA style paper. After writing my introduction, I felt slightly more comfortable about it and ended up truly enjoying the technique and organization of the APA style.…

This semester has flown by; however, English 101 has shaped my writing in so many ways. Initially, I did not recognize the ways which rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration have affected my writing. As I review my work from this semester, it is quite noticeable that my writing has improved a lot since English IV honors. Rhetoric Of all the things I have learned in English 101, rhetoric has continued to be something I use.…

By the time I went to record my podcast I felt like I had so much to day because of all the research I had done within the past several weeks. The essay that prepared me the most for this assignment would have to be the annotated bibliography The reason I feel this was the case is because of all the research that went into making this essay. I spent so much time reading different essays about other people who share the same view as me and this helped me think of topic to discuss in my podcast. When I starting making my podcast I knew I wanted it to be very informal, almost like the audience was listening in on a conversation. I didn’t put a lot of music like I originally wanted to, but I knew it wouldn’t have flowed well with the structure of my podcast.…

The Relevance and Significance of this Capstone It appears that this course will richly complement the courses I have taken based upon the criminal justice field. Essentially, a discernible similarity I have identified between this course and others I have taken is that it will provide me with the tools to effectively serve the public. I had taken a class in which its primary focus was on the cultural differences within society and how to approach individuals from all walks of life. I believe that this culturally- oriented class corresponds with this capstone because the principles of both emphasize the importance of meeting the diverse set of needs retained by those within society.…

"One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time." (Andre Gide). English 101 is a course at Tacoma Community College, a building block for other classes as the course helps improve writing essays which make a substantial percentage of work completed. The course requires a unique perspective of English due to higher writing expectations that push the boundaries of thinking. Using such high standards, students can grow as writers while learning more about authors' philosophies and improve to their understanding on topics.…

Throughout this semester, I have genuinely learned a lot. AP College English is definitely a difficult course for me, but I have strived to make efforts in changing that. It’s difficult to pinpoint all the things that I have learned during the course. I have learned many things about novels, authors, grammar, writing, reading, and the list goes on. Every year in English I have learned something new and this year is absolutely no different.…

When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. I also wanted to learn how to come up with topics and write about them easier. One last very important thing that I wanted to learn was how to prepare myself for college next year. After finishing Composition 1, I can say that I did accomplish all of those goals.…

No matter where you go or went to school, you always have some type of English class that forces you to write papers. These papers usually has to be a certain way or over a certain topic. To me that was a pretty big problem for me because I could do free writing easy, but when you tell me to write about something that I don 't have any interest in and I have to follow your “rules”, then I will just try to blow it off. I have always hated the way Professors and the world had this “image” of their version of a “perfect” essay. I always messed up on the rules like where to put my commas or semicolons, that to me is the hardest part to not have a run- on sentence.…

Dear First Year Writing Assessment Committee: In this letter, I will explain my learning outcomes and experiences with my essays for English 1010. English 1010, defined by academic standards, is to develop in first-year college writers a deeper understanding of the complexities of writing through instruction and guided practice in the skills, processes, and strategies necessary for effective, successful writing. In my past semester of English 1010, I was able to demonstrate my abilities to be an effective writer and enhance my writing skills through guiding essay projects. I do believe my abilities were improved in topics including: finding the author’s purpose, explaining ideas, revising, editing, proofreading, organizing the structure of my paper, and etc.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

One 's thing for sure is that I enjoyed English 102 way more than English 101. I had a terrible experience in English 101 and am still mad about the experience to this day. However, I greatly enjoyed my experience in my English 102 class. I loved almost every aspect of my English 102 class, including my teacher, classmates, and even work that was required. Through English 102, I have learned a lot about writing and can say without a doubt that it has made me into a better writer for many reasons.…

When most people think of a history class they imagine sitting in a dark lecture hall taking notes off a PowerPoint presentation, memorizing a few dates and people, repeating it on the test. Truly studying history, I learned, is more than memorization of a previously told story and accepting it as true. In this class I have learned history is about actively engaging the material, picking apart the details and nuances, creating and using timelines, finding deeper meaning in the material, asking questions, then looking again and digging deeper. It is not a passive study and not about memorization as I believed at the beginning of the semester. History is about asking questions and looking for answers, not just accepting what is already there, but…
