Reflection Of A Writing Assignment

Improved Essays
Throughout the duration of this course there have been many writing assignments and all of them have presented their own set of challenges and they have all improved myself as a writer and as a thinker. Some did this more than others such as the Quest I: Summary and Analysis and the Quest II: SASE Report, both of these assignments pushed me to think of different things outside the comfort zone I was used to. The fact that both of these assignments had me to write an analysis of different articles made me think about these articles in a different way to try and figure out what the authors where trying to convey to me. Then having to write my thoughts down clearly challenged me to become a better writer because putting my thoughts on paper in a clear manner has always been a struggle for me. For the most part I feel as if I overcome and accomplished this goal in a very successful manner. Then there was the Quest III: Annotated Bibliography which not only pushed me to do more analysis of sources it …show more content…
Yes, the Major Quest challenged me to write an essay that was different from any type of essay I had written before. Yes, The Major Quest challenged me as a thinker to think ways to solve the problem that was stated. But the Major Quest also challenged me as a person, because of the discipline needed to focus on just one subject and when your mind wonders all the time like mine does this can be difficult at times. Because of the time period and restraints put on the assignments that were related to the Major Quest a wondering mind was not ideal. The Major quest also challenged me as a student to make sure I showed up to class and completed my work on time. Showing up to class was easy it was the making sure I paid attention and turned the assignments in on time that was the hard part along with making sure all parts of the assignments were

I would say that my biggest struggle in the W131 class was incorporating my personal thoughts into my work. I say that because, prior to college, I was taught to not include my own thoughts in my writings and to be a neutral informer. However, I now realize that it is a necessity to include my thoughts in each of my writings, because since it is my own, readers want to hear my voice as well as the information. Information gathered, using the proper…

However, as the course progressed and I began to practice more, I started to understand the importance of analyzing information and subsequently finding a deeper meaning within the assigned readings. I believe I succeeded at writing the introduction and conclusion for the papers I wrote. Once I grasped the concept of critical analysis, I was able to improve the analytical aspect of my writing and relate the material in…

At the beginning of this semester I was extremely nervous to be taking a writing class. Growing up I was never a strong writer. However, throughout this course I believe I have become a better writer. This change in my write can be attributed to the different assignments throughout the course. Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

    Examples Of Media Bias

I chose these four lessons as I believe they demonstrate the most growth and provide variety within my portfolio. The speech in which I put myself in John F. Kennedy’s position was especially interesting to write, because although it was outside of my comfort level, I was given the opportunity to identify and write as somebody completely different from myself— someone in a position so powerful that a nation depends on him. In contrast, the letter in lesson nine is written from the perspective of an individual in the Great Depression; someone who feels powerless and hopeless, yet chooses to see the humour in things, despite being placed in a situation beyond his control. Additionally, during my research for this letter, I found myself learning a great deal of interesting facts regarding this tragic era. The “Deep-Thinking Questions” and the “Examples of Media Bias” afforded me the opportunity to put the analytical skills that I have gained during this course to use whilst simultaneously improving them.…

Knowing I had to aim for a different audience this time around really affected my writing. When my tone for the original paper was rather informal and even somewhat fun, now I had to write for the APA, a group of people who take this line of work very seriously (as they should). Due to this, I gave my arguments a more serious tone, and I even expanded my vocabulary a bit to give a good impression. If I want the APA to listen to me, I should write in a tone they would use. I was careful about the sources I used for this.…

Project 2 Toni Morrison, bell hooks, and James Baldwin are all writers, professionals crafting fully realized people living in black and white, and poetically weave humor and personal tragedy into their essays about injustice. In the past, I always avoided calling myself a writer because I simply could not compare with them or their contemporaries. Throughout the years, I realized that forbidding myself from using that title was not a humble act, but instead, limiting myself from strengthening my writing through making excuses. Writing did not come naturally to me. I could do the bare minimum.…

When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. I also wanted to learn how to come up with topics and write about them easier. One last very important thing that I wanted to learn was how to prepare myself for college next year. After finishing Composition 1, I can say that I did accomplish all of those goals.…

Throughout the course of the semester, my ability as a writer has increased at a slight level. The semester began on a rough patch with my initial submission of assignment one, but that was quickly resolved in my revisions. Since that point, my grades have been relatively similar. I would accredit this improvement to the feedback I received on the first assignment, although some of my faults could be seen in the next assignment as well. Since that point, however, my writing has been relatively consistent.…

Like I previously stated I learned how to do many things with my writing this semester. The first essay we wrote, a narrative, was probably my favorite essay to write. Throughout this course, writing took more than just writing about what you read. Here I learned to process all the information that needs to be processed and come up with some way to get it out on paper. With writing I have learned that vocabulary and grammar are two very affective sides to it. With grammar I have learned when to end a sentence. Working on grammar for my writing also allowed me to learn, when the time came for me to use punctuation and extend the sentence.…

This English class has been very helpful in my efforts to improve my writing abilities, but has also been very challenging due to there being a different median for every essay. It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing. While in high school I would usually write all of my essays a day before the due date a habit of mine that was very difficult to overcome, but now I have learned from my mistakes.…
