Weekly Reflection Seven

This week in class we heard some interesting Ted Talks. The one that stood out to me the most was one that talked about how to spot a liar. This talk was interesting because it pointed out different things people do when they are lying. For example, looking directly into your eyes or stating facts in perfect chronological order suggesting that the lie was rehearsed. The speaker suggested that this topic relates to entrepreneurial spirit in that it helps to decipher the truth from the lies and help one make better decisions with this information. Another part of class that I enjoyed this week was working in groups on our “retriever tank” project outside. I was a nice day and it was nice to enjoy the weather and do group work outside

All the bright colors and attractive images help with the child imagination which is very important for their developmental growth. As long as a product is safe if it has a character on it or a logo and the price is reasonable then I find even myself purchasing those items. I am now half way through with Summer Session II and the transition between high school and college has been exciting, but also overwhelming. A few differences I have noticed between my high school classes and my college classes are the size difference, the diversity in students, and the faster pace. In my high school, the average number of students in each class was about 25 to 35 compared to my biggest class now at about 200 students. Additionally, the students in my class before were mainly Hispanic, but now everywhere I look I am able to see people of different cultures and that is something that is so important to me. The reason for this is that, while I did not grow up in a diverse area, I believe that growing up around different people…

Short Term 12 was a very interesting movie. It had hints of being realistic, but with aspects where you knew it was a movie. It’s about a group of workers who work in a foster care residential facility setting. The main character, Grace, deals with her own personal struggles while she supervises the children at the facility. I have a short bit of experience at a facility like Short Term 12 in some aspects; I can see where parts of the movie are realistic and where are some are an exaggeration because it is a movie.…

Growing up in our time, in a middle class privileged family and attending a good school makes myself take for granted what some people truly go though. I have always enjoyed my history classes throughout high school because my teachers were so passionate about their subjects. Prior to this class I had not been aware of several events in our history including the project of Freedom Summer which took place in 1964. Throughout the PBS documentary of Freedom Summer I had felt shocked, fortunate, furious and several other feelings.…
