I interviewed Dawn Hofsted, a high school math teacher at the Forest Grove High School. When I first walked into the school, the environment felt very different from what I was used to. I went to a private school all my life, the Forest Grove High School felt very big, the hall ways was triple the size of my high school’s hall way; When the kids got out of class, everyone was talking to each other and walking in different directions and the big hall way became very packed and busy. When I got Mrs. Hofsted’s classroom, there were students packing up, going in and out of the classroom, asking Mrs. Hofsted questions about tutoring and make up tests. I saw her interact with her students and observed that she truly care about the well being of her students. She answered all of their questions and gave them specific time in the near future to come back to meet with her to get tutoring and to make up a test. She also told her students other places where they can find resources to help them get a better understanding of the materials they learned in class. During the interview, I found that for some questions, she did not have that much to say, other questions she had a lot to say. I thought it …show more content…
She told me not to become and teacher and to pursue something else. Which really made me think, and after reflecting on this for a couple of days, I think I would take her advice and not become a teacher; I feel that after this interview, I see that a lot of her time outside of school is dedicated to school because of the lack of prep time; I think I would like for part of my career to dabble into my life but not take an additional 80 hours out of my own personal

Someone once said, "Suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret." This essentially means that discipline will be difficult to manage but it’s a finer choice than regretting your decisions later on. School can be difficult, but the pain of the self-command and devotion will get you much further in your education than lackadaisical and deprecate. It seems to me that future freshmen with a hard work ethic and commitment should attend Early College High School because it saves the student time, money and you provides a safe atmosphere with a supportive audience. Not only is Early College High School a free program…

Wednesday, September 16th, 2015 I did my observation of Paul Dunbar Middle School. Some of the first things I noticed when I entered the school was how enormous the school’s population is and how the school was mostly Hispanic and African American students. I arrived at the front desk and was asked by the assistant principal what was my preference of classroom. She then proceeded to take me the section of the school where the ESE classes are held. ESE stands for exceptional student education classes.…

Freshman year of high school is scary for anyone, the enormous transition from being a top dog at middle school, back to an underclassman; wondering if your high school teachers will be as unforgiving as your 8th grade teacher’s descriptions, or even just that uncertainty that comes along with any major change. As a homeschooler entering school system for the first time, and having completely skipped 8th grade, it was terrifying. I had no idea what to expect, I worried about being behind the other students, or having missed something in my homeschooling curriculum, even interacting with other kids was all unfamiliar. It definitely didn’t help that, at 13, I was the youngest person in the building. Just two days into the school year, I discovered that P-AP world…

She advised, “You should spend some time in a classroom first to see if you like it or not. Then, you should shadow or intern with a teacher.” Also, she told me, “You will have more chance to get the job as a chemistry teacher if you have a Master Degree of Chemistry.” I looked at my watch again and saw that the interview was over, so I thanked her for her kindness and said good bye to her. As she walked me to the school gate, I asked about the salary, and she revealed that teaching pays a decent amount.…

Lynda Barry the author of “the Sanctuary of School” and the creator of her own comic strip, reminisces about her childhood and how school was a safe haven from her home and hardship filled family. She said that she was a child with the sound turned off and the only time that she was noticed and she felt she mattered was at school. Education was an important part of her childhood, some days she did not know where she would be without her teachers and the oasis of school. Writing was not a subject that held my interest in high school. Throughout the last twelve years I have found myself having to write letters, proposals, and business correspondence for my employers. I would complete the assignment and move on to the next task. Deciding to further my education I enrolled in Daytona State College and my first class was your ENC 1101. I have seen a change in my pre-class writing style; I have honed my skills, and the different techniques I have learned while taking this course have only improved my writing style.…

Who did you interview and why did you select this individual to interview? For the informational interview, I interviewed my mom, Beth Martens. High school. People say it’s either the best or worst four years of your life. Of course they never give you the details of what makes them the worst or best years. Which means, I, a terrified 8th grader convince myself that they will be the worst four years of my life. Honestly it is easy to guess that.…

My field observations took place at Renaissance Charter School at Central Palm. I honestly had a wonderful experience and I really enjoyed my time there. I was assigned to Ms. Pickholtz’s 1st grade class. When I first arrived to the charter school I was extremely nervous and a little anxious because just the thought of actually helping a teacher run a class seemed scary to me because I felt like I would do a horrible job at it. However, I was welcomed by both the teacher and the class…

In this case study, Rich Thorpe is an extremely passionate first-year teacher at West Alton High School. Rich was very grateful to have received this job, and has put a lot of effort into his teaching, despite the pressures of a first year teacher. For the first three quarters of the year, he has had good classroom management skills, and his students respect him as a teacher. He clearly spends time thinking about his students because when he noticed a few of them were struggling toward the end of the year he became concerned and wanted to help them out, especially since their behaviors effected the entire class.…

Introduction: During my time at James A. Whitaker Elementary School in Buena Park Unified School District, I was able to observe Mrs. Solomon’s fourth grade class. I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…

A Triumphant Moment There I was a junior in high school starting my second semester of school taking a welding class. At first we had to do a couple of lessons out of a book and pass the tests before we could start welding. Once we finished the tests we started to weld on scrap metal for practice. Then the teacher would look at the welds and make sure we were improving. When we were done with welding and scrap metal and showed we were proficient at it she said it was time for us to pick a project to start on.…

When entering junior high, we were constantly reminded by teachers, parents, and school administrators how different it was from elementary school. It was supposed to be the start of a transition from childhood to young adulthood, and though I discounted many of these sentiments at the time, looking back it certainly was. In an instant, it seemed, everyone started swearing and the hallways began to smell of a putrid mixture of not enough or too much cologne. For the first time we had to change before gym, no one really sure whether it was more socially acceptable to change in a bathroom stall or feign confidence by doing it out in the open. Talk swirled of who got their periods, who was wearing what bra size, and which boys needed to stop cultivating…
