While exploring the chapters and really diving into the material this semester it was interesting to see how the groups have played out. Particularly in my group, we have individuals with very similar and different circumstances working with one another. As a group, we have set task dimensions such as getting the collective nine hours of community service done, then getting our proof of the hours, completing our papers, and successfully delivering a group project to our peers before the end of the semester or due dates. These are the clear cut circumstances we have been placed into as group the moment we selected to work with one another. As communication majors, I thought we would have had an easier time at setting goals, overcoming objectives, and concisely getting our points across in the group. This wasn’t the case as we began at all. Communicating our stances only took us so far into moving forward as a group. It started to become clear after each week passed and we would talk about all the different options that we could be exploring, how we would go about implementing these different options and strategizing our schedules to accommodate for the events. Sadly, all we seemed to do was talk about among each other about similar ideas each week, and different group members would come back with excuses for why it didn’t happen. I realize looking back that I had a hindsight bias in the case of my group members’ abilities to communicate. I made the assumption that they must be looking at the issue like I was because I figured we are all relatively the same as far as considering our communication training. We were as a unit being social loafers in the beginning and waiting to see how things would play out. Which wasn’t too effective of a process. This is clearly reflected in chapter three that “the output from a group 's task dimensions is productivity” (Book, pg. 79). We saw this when we accomplished the nine hours the next weekend at the local duck pond here in town. While we were able to successfully achieve the task dimension aspect of our group development quite successfully and efficiently. I do not believe that we are a cohesive group by any means. “Cohesiveness is the degree to which members feel a part of the group, wish to stay in the group, and are committed to each other and to the group’s work” (Lanfred, 1998; Wech et al., 1998). As a group we have yet to develop that relationship in my opinion that would classify cohesiveness. We have not had the time to truly develop a more personal relationship as a whole. To correct this, I feel we could do a get-together and talk more about the project and how are semesters have progressed so far. Something that would open the door up for more intimate/personal conversation between group members to develop the relational satisfaction for the group. The overall objective would be encouraging compatible membership like stated in the textbook will allow us to “enjoy each other 's company and share an attraction for one another (Book, 2015 pg 80).” We also established shared goals for our
