In today’s health care setting, the demand in health management services are constantly increasing, from medical emergencies, to specific medical tasks dependent on the specific hospital unit. Emergency situations occur on a daily basis, and health care staff feel the stress, especially during medical emergencies. The purpose of this change project is to implement mock clinical simulations for nursing staff. As “the knowledge base of nursing is growing exponentially” (Curl, Smith, Chisholm, McGee, Das, 2016) and the need for frequent education increases , mock clinical simulations can help to provide proactive and efficient care to both patient and nursing staff. A review of literature was performed to assess what research reports have been published on the topic of mock clinical simulations within the health care filed.…

I really enjoyed reading your post. I like your case studies, scenarios and concept mapping similar to my clinical rotation and simulation lab (SIM lab). SIM lab will be beneficial to the students because it creates confidence and preparedness for emergency situations that promotes critical thinking skills. Nurse educators who extend Bandura's framework for simulation relate increases in self-efficacy to simulation features. This including hands-on practice, immediate feedback, peer modeling, and repeated practice in a psychologically safe environment (Franklin & Lee, 2014).…

Simulation and Debriefing in Nursing Education Nursing education is a fast paced and ever changing field in which its educators must utilize teaching strategies that continually encourage active learning of their students. Simulation is a teaching strategy that is becoming commonplace in nursing curricula. By utilizing simulation, educators are able to duplicate most critical aspects of a clinical scenario so that it may be readily understood when students experience it in clinical practice (Cant & Cooper, 2010). This teaching strategy provides a safe and active learning environment for students to utilize their affective, cognitive and psychomotor skills in combination with the development of critical thinking, clinical decision-making…

Benjamin Franklin once said, “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn.” A huge part of nursing education is learning and practicing hands on skills. Students usually start by practicing these skills in what is known as “simulations.” Many times these simulations are set up like hospitals with hospital beds, manikins, and medical supplies all to prompt learning.…

The Use of Simulation: Best Practice Major movements in healthcare created a change in clinical experiences, the shortening of education time, and working restrictions all created medical personnel with deficiencies in their learning. Universities struggle with ways to best prepare clinicians. The Institute of Medicine’s report of patient safety issues has come to the forefront of educators and healthcare providers. Because of this lack of critical thinking, medical staff fails to recognize the deterioration of a patient, which results in poor patient outcomes (Robert, Tilley, & Peterson, 2014). Simulation is a valuable teaching tool for both new and seasoned nurses.…

Further more educating students are a complex task. Education requires comprehensive preparation as well as continuous monitoring of the academic and administrative functions to provide whatever is needed in enhancing the education system of an educational institution (Lee, 2010). One of the most obvious barriers to implement simulation program in healthcare professionals' education and in clinical settings is cost. Initial setup costs and the costs of maintaining an up-to-date simulation laboratory can be challenging (Parker & Myrick, 2009). While research and documented experience with using simulation in nursing education is increasing, there is limited research pertaining to evidence-based principles or theory on how students…
