Reflection: My Clinical And Future Practice

I also enjoyed this class too and reading your discussion responses and also for the other students. We surely learn a lot in the past 11 weeks. I agree with you that this class covered so much content including identifying the patient’s problem, diagnosing it, prescribing the appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological management, as well as educating the patient on their illness and preventive measures. This class definitely enhanced my skills in problem solving and decision making and I have no doubt I will apply this skills in my clinical and future practice. I wish you all the best in the rest of your

However, sceptics have questioned how the concept is sometimes interpreted, arguing that there is unclear logical and pragmatic examination of its value in professional development. Therefore, developing a reflective report is an undertaking that needs to be approached with caution, more so if individual reflection and critical thinking are to be rooted. The purpose of this reflective report is to reflect on the collaborative boat bus project performance and the experiences of working within a multidisciplinary group. The report will give consideration to the feedback we obtained from the client and from Adam Smith (tutor) and how we then applied this feedback to feed in the report writing. An iterative model, meaning learning through participating, somewhat adapted to the one in Bulman and Schultz (2013)’s ‘Reflective Practice in Nursing p232’, Gibbs (1988)’s reflective cycle explains the significance of the evaluation process, especially building on negative as well as positive feedback.…

I am glad you brought up that faculty needs to be “competent” in Evidence Based Practice (EBP). I had the opportunity to work for a college as a Clinical Adjunct Instructor (CAI). In doing so, CAI were required to monitor, teach, and be available for questions in the clinical lab prior to going to sites. I had a hard time adjusting to the skills check off list due to some of the skills were not up to date such as Foley catheter insertions. When I brought this to their attention including providing EBP literature.…

The third week has allowed me to see my progression from when I started to now, it has allowed me to learn from previous experience in my work by reflecting every week knowing the amount of depth to include and showing an understanding in my blogs. This can help within a health and social care setting as you cannot dwell on mistakes, you have to simply pick yourself up and learn from the mistake to ensure you make the right decision the next time to fulfil all of the service user’s needs. We started to look at reflection to make us feel more comfortable in what we were doing. We then went onto learning about theories which helped develop further information because it explained through different opinions. Kolb (1984) states that learning involves…

First, l am thankful for all who have contributed to seeing me to the end. I also hope to continue to reflect on myself whether by journaling, volunteering and other activities to promote quality of care using evidence based practice in my clinical experience. The fact that the program was online worked for me, as it gave me the flexibility and time to complete all class work on time. I would suggest that the school have a group of past students that can encourage other students and maybe serve as mentors. I would hope the faculty keep on having the weekly discussion board as this helps all students especially when you think you have no idea of what you are doing.…

Since researching this topic, my nursing practice has changed in the way that I interview, assess, and treat my clients. Throughout my education in nursing school I was always taught a more holistic approach, however I was never truly conducting my assessments and interviews with clients within this matter. I am always respectable and caring towards clients, but in my past practices within clinical, my focus was primarily on the disease process and preventing the disease from worsening. Within this semester I have improved my practice, with the help of this research, to not only treat the disease process, but to use the same focus as CAM and treat the person as a whole. I found this to also help in establishing better client-caregiver relationships.…

Before the assessment I inform Mr D and Mrs V fully on the process and what the assessment was for and to clarify any misunderstandings. Also, I explained what my role was in this process before the assessment began. The questionnaire indicates how well the individual is going in different aspects of their life and my role is to clarify and get a clear picture of the needs of the individual encompassing social, emotional and relationship needs, as well as difficulties which they may have. I stated that any questions they prefer not to answer would be up to them, all the information is kept secure and only individuals assigned to their care will have access to the information. I found that went asking a question from the assessment form, the…

Reflection is a vital skill that all nurses should be competent at. The Royal College of Nursing (2017) suggests that reflection is a way to think about an activity or experience and consider what was positive and negative about it, enabling us to plan how we could do something differently or improve on for the future. The Oxford Dictionary of Nursing (2014) defines reflection as “the careful consideration of one’s own professional practice, including the ability to review, analyse, and evaluate situations during or after events (possibility using a recognised model)”. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (2017) encourages nurses to reflect, saying that it enables them to identify any changes or improvements to their practices and it’s an important…

This was my first day of clinical and I was pretty scared. However, I'm glad that I got chosen to be in the X-Ray department. Compared to other peers in our class, I would say I got the best experience. I got to shadow a student named Shannon who was also shadowing X-ray Technicians as well. She is now in a 2-year program where she does clinical rotations at Peconic, Brentwood, and Manningville Hospitals from 8-4 through Mon-Fri and all summer.…

In matching Janet’s posture, language and tone, I reflected back to Janet her external behaviours. When I commented to Janet “and because you know that at the base of it’s not you it’s him” I put into my words her thoughts regarding his behaviour. Janet’s response of “well that’s the thing, I don’t let it affect me anymore…” allowed her to then explore why her reactions to her ex-husband had changed. I found this skill of counselling particularly difficult in this session due to our friendship.…

I have never experienced therapy, but always had imagined how the process would be. I pictured a couch and a therapist on a fancy chair like in the movies, and I would just lay there and vent about my problems. Initially, I was very excited to see someone whom I can speak with and possibly help me resolve my issues, but that excitement did not last long. Anxiety kicked in as I got a phone call from the therapist, informing me that we would start next week. I started to become very nervous about the whole client-therapist relationship, for what if I did not connect with.…

My first clinical experience was at St. Vincent hospital on a geriatric unit, when I was a second year nursing student. During my time there, nurses often approached me to provide small learning experiences and teach students how to be efficient. When a nurse on the unit asked for help with a bed bath for a patient with whom I was not familiar, I agreed. I wanted to get as much experience as I could. The nurse led me to the patient 's room right away.…

Nursing is a lifelong learning. To grow professionally in nursing I need to reflect and analyse on my clinical experiences. It will help me to improve my professional practice, gain more knowledge and skills, and increase my critical thinking abilities and confidence in dealing with difficult situations. To reflect on what I had learned during my past work experiences I will use Gibbs reflective cycle. It was my first week of work as an Operating Theatre (OT) nurse.…
