I believe the most valuable experience I gained during my second placement, was observing and working as part of a collaborative interprofessional team. This is the focus of this final placement reflection. Through university studies, the importance of engagement not only with the client but also other health professionals have been highlight in each subject of both my undergraduate degree and in this course to ensure a client centred approach is undertaken to optimise the quality and effectiveness of a client’s treatment plan. I observed and experienced this first hand during both placements, however in a more interactive capacity in my second placement. The key areas I need the ability to address and continue to develop my skills are:
• Differentiating AEP’s role to other allied health professionals and educating professionals about the AEP’s scope of practice. For example, it is essential to able to communicate the role an AEP and how we can assist in the treatment of a client. I have been learning to explaining that AEP’s are experts in the field of using evidence based exercise and physical activity as treatment for numerous disorders, diseases and dysfunctions, highlighting the fact we give individuals the tools to help themselves to develop self-management skills.
• Developing a professional approach when working with complex cases to reach goals that some have dismissed as not possible. Using guidelines, learnt exercise prescription and adding ‘imagination positively’ undertaking clinical intervention is better than no treatment at all and communicating this to other professionals.
• Identifying motivations of practitioners and professionals you interact with to assist in the style, approach and type of communication ensuring the effectiveness of the
