I have donated time in my city, state, country and internationally. Through the many opportunities that I have had for community service, I have been able to broaden my views, and look outside my community at how others experience our world. I have visited very diverse communities ranging from the inner city of Detroit, MI to a small, economically depressed village in Honduras, to the mountains of Pennsylvania and inside homes very different from mine in my own…

Thursday, October, 22, I was privileged with the opportunity to see the production La Muerte Bila, written in collaboration with the cast, and directed by Rebecca Marinez. The play was performed at the lovely Milargo Theater in Portland, Oregon. La Muerte Baila takes place in the afterlife, a place that is neither heaven nor hell. The standout performers in the play were Alejandro, played by Jonathan Hernandez, and La Muerte, played by Sofia May-Cuxim. La Muerte Baila is much different from most other plays due to the fact that it is performed bilingually.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

I would first like to start off by expressing how honored I am for being recognized by your organization, as well as overjoyed to have received an invitation to apply for the Johnnie Ruth Clarke Scholarship. I am a focused young man, with a spirit of perseverance, and despite having adversities within my young life, they have not harmed my character, nor the goals that I have on the road towards my future success. I am looking forward with an optimistic mind that I will be so fortunate as to receive this scholarship, it will stand to be a major impact on my journey towards pursuing an active and productive role within society, as well as being a positive role model within my culture. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a fascination within the field of law and justice, I joined the Criminal Justice Academy’s magnet program located at Pinellas Park High School and…

A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

Law and the Interest that it Holds on People Being able to study the law has always been an interest of mine because there are so many different directions that it can take. People defending a certain law can win but so can a person that is trying to change a tradition, and thus can change the whole way the system works and is looked at by U.S citizens and that includes the rest of the world. I like knowing that the U.S has the power to make laws in our own country and cause and effect somewhere else, which can benefit people from those places as to gain more rights than what they had before. Many of the cases that have been discussed in class, I had at one point hear or read about them. However, I had not been able to go into much detail…

In the past few years, I’ve volunteered with a variety of organizations from National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Key Club. I have also co-founded a Community Outreach Club at high school. Through the Church I’ve assisted with Vacation Bible School and middle school retreats. One of my favorite memories came from volunteering for the first time with National Spanish Honor Society. Choosing to participate in this program was not a difficult decision, since I knew I wanted to continue practicing my Spanish and volunteer in the community at the same time.…

This summer, I worked as a JCIT at the BSAFE summer program. BSAFE is a summer program for kids from kindergarten to 5th grade, where they are taught school subjects and go on a field trip every day. A JCIT is a junior counselor-in-training, so my job was to assist the leader with the kids and clean and prepare activities for them. JCITs are closer in age to the kids, so they usually confided in us with their questions and concerns. Being a JCIT helped me gain a lot of patience and allowed me to learn to help with things even when I'm not directly asked to do so.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

When watching the play “Vigils,” it was very similar to the actual play being read. I felt that most of the actors did very well. Every time that it went back to the scene of the baby crying and the fireman coming in trying to save it, I could see the actors did it every time like it was the first time again. It was done very well. I thought the scenes were constructed very well.…
