Farmer’s planning schedule. On Fridays, she told me she lays out all materials needed for each day and corresponds them with the lesson plans to make sure everything matches well. Mrs. Farmer informed me that staying organized is key when planning lessons and teaching. She said if you do not prepare in advance you risk not having the correct amount of materials needed, or something of that nature. Farmer told me that students are given choices when deciding what is taught. Instead, I found it odd that parents do not decide anything at all. I say this because I would assume she has or will receive phone calls or emails from parents discussing their child’s academic progress. If a parent recommends something I would just think a teacher would take it into account, but Mrs. Farmer took the opposite look on that. She told me in the interview that she allows students to decide small things such as topics of books, what to write about, and what is done in science class. She does not allow her students to have free for all choices, and she feels she has a good balance with her students. Mrs. Farmer thinks that when parents get involved with decision making and the student becomes aware, they are less likely to put in the effort.
