Freshman Seminar 2017 Reflection
This semester was a very eye opening experience for me. Not only was I opened up to a new world of people but I was also opened up to a new place. Growing up, I was always a very shy and timid person. I didn’t like going to school, let alone talk to Now, I’m getting comfortable in my own skin and I have learned to appreciate everything and everyone. Early College was definitely somewhere I did not see myself going to when I was in middle school. I’ve always been a big dreamer and I always loved anything to do with music. My plan was to attend an arts high school program for music, but for a very good reason I landed at the Early College.
Since I started at the Early College, I’ve seen changes in my personality.

Throughout the first semester of College Composition, I wrestled with three essays, all differing in format and content. The first was a narrative that reflected our educational experience. After this came an analysis of a visual text, followed by a research paper. The narrative was the easiest to write; however, I acquired important skills for writing the other two, which were in a less familiar format. With the three essays, I learned about my own writing skills and habits concerning development and critical thinking, time management, and organization.…

I am interested in the Early College Academy because it is a great opportunity. I understand that I will have to do a lot more work here than in other schools because of the college courses, but that does not matter to me. I will still study and work hard for the duration of my time here. This is the only school in which I can knock off two years of college for free. I also like the schedule here and how it's shorter, but I understand that I will have to use the rest of the time for studying and that's alright for me because in order achieve one's goals one has to work hard and that's what I…

Coming to Roadmap class with Mr. Whalen was tons of fun because he made everything interesting so that me and my classmates would be engaged. This course required every student to read a novel written by Ken Bain titled, What the Best College Students do. At first, I did not want to read this novel because it seemed to long and boring. The professor connected the novel perfectly to class activities and discussions that I enjoyed reading it. I would agree that Bain wanted to demonstrate students that they all have goals and potentials to meet.…

What makes saying no so difficult? According to the author of "The Community College Experience" we are taught from a young are that it is a bad word. We are taught that we should never say it to others. Moreover, this unfortunate cultural norm causes undue stress to our schedules. Spending my time at RVEC has been a quick overlook of how things really are in high school and as being an early college student. I am at my first quarter, and it has been a quick roll with learning how to glide along effectively. This includes study skills, time management, and how to better improve my learning in all classes, even outside activities. All the skills I’ve learned so far from freshman seminar is really showing an effect with how I become successful here at RVEC. The best part that I really enjoyed about the freshman seminar class is that it makes me realize and understand what life is really going to be like when I’m first starting finish school/college, when I live the “adult” life, pursuing my career, and withholding many responsibilities.…

I thought of myself as a very awkward person that kept everything to herself. But this class made me feel welcomed! Not one of us knew each other so we all started from scratch. The good thing about this class was that we had the same specific class and teacher for both semesters of our first year of college, which was awesome! I ended English 104 with a B. My second class was a Health Education class and it was bit difficult because it was involved with Business.…
