Hope Orientation Reflection Paper

I came to Hope Orientation in August of 2016, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, fresh off of a summer at SpringHill Camps. My enthusiasm to begin college was matched by over 100 individuals in matching orange t-shirts and I was enthralled. While the other freshman in my group were hesitant to take part in the child-like games, I thrived. Though I didn’t understand the method, I loved the madness: the over-the-top skits, meeting 200 people over the course of one hour, and my favorite, icebreakers. Orientation gave freshman the opportunity to take one last dip into childhood before being slingshotted into adulthood -- and it worked wonders on a group of awkward freshmen. Once my time as a participant was over, I quickly set my eyes on becoming an Orientation Assistant.

In high school, I co-founded a non-profit called ChemoCare that coordinates events to educate children about cancer and creates cloth chemotherapy bag covers that go over the infusion. Through this, I gained the ability to collaborate, delegate responsibilities and develop an independent project. Another part of this project involved communicating with hospitals to plan delivery events, resulting in the distribution of over 1000 chemotherapy bag covers to children with cancer. I am not only dedicated to acting on my passions, but continuing to strive for growth.
Though already an incredible program, I believe Hope College Orientation could grow as well. I have found that my best friendships have come as a result of common deep-rooted passions and service. With this element introduced, Orientation would be nearly complete -- just missing an Assistant Director named

Homecoming dances (or fall formals) happen every October, they have senior prom, pep rallies, and a normal graduation. Students stay after school and participate in clubs, there is student government and rotary, and students can choose to compete in academic UIL. An early college program is still a place for adolescents to transition from their teenage years to young adulthood, a place for students to make friendships and memories, to fall in and out of love, to make mistakes and in the end, to start the process of finding…

Weekly current events educated me about issues going on in the world that I was clueless about. Quarterly presentations taught me how to create an effective presentation and present it with confidence. Each and every assignment had a purpose behind it, and as a student, I have never felt as eager to learn and become a better person until I joined this program, and met the most inspiring teacher, Ms. Suess, who tells my class all the time to follow our passion. It is important that we exercise our God given right to utilize our sphere of influence to the best of our abilities. Although leadership may gain you more recognition throughout society it is not about the affluence one can acquire; leading is solely about guiding others down a path of success so that future generations can more easily learn from our mistakes to pass down to the next generation. My mother was one of the women in the village who would take care of the sick; she learned everything she knew from my grandmother. When we got there, I saw my mother prepare some medicine and giving it to the ill child.…
