Passion, according to Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary, can be defined as a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept. Initially, when we see two spouses kiss and show affection towards one another, we admire the passion and love that they have for one another. Also, throughout the years my parents, mentors, and teachers all encouraged me to pursue my passion and go after my “dream” job. Miller says that teachers, who do not care about their students and their performance, result in students doing poorly in class academics. One way to resolve these problems is to raise the wages for the teachers, but base salary upon performance and educational background.…

If society wants the country’s best and brightest college graduates to see teaching as a desirable career, it’s essential to offer pay incentives high enough to attract the talent we seek—high-performers who might otherwise be drawn to higher paying and better respected professions (Alfuth). The low pay causes teachers to have to work second, even third jobs, in order to support their families. The low pay is the main reason why teachers leave the profession. With salaries beginning at only $39,580 and averaging at $52,965, there’s no wonder why teachers are leaving the profession. In speaking with many teachers, as well as thinking about my own future as a teacher, it is apparent that there is a correlation between feeling valued and receiving an appropriate salary for the hard work that you do.…
