I also learned that many of things that shaped the way we behave in a community were out of our control like our lineage or the principles and/or values we have, most of which, if not all, came from our parents or guardians. I never realized how certain aspects of my person have affected the way I behave in the community and around the members of the community. I never realized that my lack of faith may be noticeable when it comes to others around me who are very fixed in their faith, or that the way I carry myself because of past insecurities is noticeable to others who do not even know me and they form opinions of me based on something as simple as the way I walk. So, it is amazing to see how my past affects my present day life in ways that I do not realize. I, also, realize that communities go through that phase where everyone is judgemental of everyone who does not come from the same background that they do, or is that just the Mercer community? Shade has been thrown.
To continue, even in class, we are building a little community considering that I have other classes with several of my classmates, I knew some of them before this class, and/or we have tutoring together. It also nice to get other perspectives on certain things happening in our society like Trump’s ‘SOB’ comment, or the Blue Lives Matter movement. My classmates have different opinions than myself on several of the topics that we discuss in class, and, each time, it is a learning experience because while most times I do not agree, I can easily understand where they are coming
