When standing at the barre, I realize that I focus more on what the lower half of my body is doing than using my port te bra to guide myself through the exercises at a performance quality level. While watching our midterm video, I noticed that I would stop using my port te bra and leave it in à la seconde while focusing on the technique of my lower half. During my midterm meeting, Dr. Sims mentioned I sometimes tend to shorten the use of my port te bras during exercises in class. By doing this, it allows my performance level to be seen low and my movements to look very lazy. During my spring semester of Ballet II last year, learning a ballet variation in class helped me tremendously when knowing when to look out at the audience and to present yourself as a ballerina. Knowing that my arms are a good length and being an average individual, I am been told that I need to lengthen my arms to allow my movements to seem bigger than they are. The use of my Épaulement during exercises helps me to also focus on my port te bras and performance quality easier. One specific exercise that I noticed this in during our midterm was the fast dégagé exercise. I noticed that I started out with using port te bras, but as soon as I started focusing on the sequence of the exercise and what my feet were doing, I automatically dropped what me arms were doing and left my arm in à la seconde.
