Thinking About Crime In this essay I will be discussing my views on crime causation. This essay will cover my thoughts on why people break the law and provide an explanation on why my thoughts on crime causation are the way they are. Everyone’s experience in life is different and that experience is what makes people view things in a different light, such as crime causation. Many individuals break the law for different reasons. Many people break the law because they were affected by how they were brought up. Coming from broken homes can have a huge impact on people and can lead to offending into adolescent and adult years. Growing up in a less fortunate living situation I learned a lot of complicated things at a young age and matured rather fast compared to other kids my age. I learned from my siblings just what growing up from a broken home can to a child. Two of my siblings in particular grew up to follow in the footsteps of our parents and were both continuously getting in trouble with the law. I saw first-hand how all the negative things that occurred in my life effected everyone in my family. My siblings and I grew up watching the people who were supposed to be our role models make every poor decision possible, and unfortunately many people like my siblings can’t coop properly and in return end up making poor decisions themselves. Growing up I personally knew a few kids who had great parents and living situations but still defied their parents and authority figures. One of my older friends I knew back in high school went out drinking with some friends. He decided to drive the vehicle back home while drunk. His choices to drive drunk caused them to swerve and wreck, killing one of the passengers in his truck, whom was a very sweet and loved girl. He has gone on to give countless speeches about the horrific accident and give his heartbreaking testimony on why people shouldn’t drink and drive. Every time he tells the story you can hear the sadness and heartbreak in his voice, and the pain behind his eyes because he blames himself for what happened to her.
