I gain confidence in writing and accepting criticism. My past English professor was not helpful in giving feedback. But, professor Padilla wasn’t only helpful if we needed help, she also gives us an assignment where we had to go to the writing center in order to receive credit. Which was very nerve wrecking because I get nervous of what other would think of my writing. I had to get my fears out the way and now I see that the writing center is very helpful. My writing has improved thanks to the readings. And now I can say that I am interested in writing essays because I learned how to organize my thoughts and how to write a standard college essay. My first semester of college has been such a major change from high school because Professor Collins was very detailed about what needs to be fixed and how to fix it. While I was in high school, my English teacher did not do a very good job at giving feedback. Also, having my classmates give ideas on what to write about always played a big part in writing my final draft. I also thought it was a crazy idea when Professor Collins told me that I should read my paper out loud but now I do it for every paper and will continue to do it. My biggest regret this semester was not going to the writing center more and waiting last minute to do my papers.…

I understand what I need to write about, but just do not know how to start it. However, what has helped me with my writing process has been setting up a draft in which I write down what I will talk about in each paragraph. Also, peer reviews have helped me so much with my writing process. I like having my peers read over my essay and give me feedback. This helped me know where I needed to make changes and parts I did well on.…

My writing experience before this class was very stressful. I wasn 't and I am still not a strong writer when it comes to academics. I also hate writing for a class. When I first heard about taking a college English class I was a little hesitant knowing that I am not a very strong writer. I was worried that a college class would be much more fast paced and difficult than the high school classes I had become accustomed to, I was concerned with the class being online, and not having any face to face communication, and I was afraid I would not be able to keep up and I would fall far behind, however this was not the case. While I did struggle some in this class, it helped me become a much better writer. Looking back at my first essay, and comparing it to my argumentative essay I can see that I have advanced as a writer. This class has allowed me to better express my thoughts and opinions when writing.…

I was never really taught on how to do in-text citations so I had to kind of teach myself to better that skill. Also, here and there throughout my research paper I had many run on sentences but that is an easy fix because it was only my second draft. Another strong point in my paper was the conclusion, which typically that is my hardest part of finishing a paper. The expectations for college writing is far different than the writing in high school. I believe that my final pieces of writing show how I have grown as a writer from the beginning of college.…

It can be noticed quickly when I read my paper out loud. I tend to misuse pronouns in my writing. For example, I selected a sentence from my second essay that shows one of my weaknesses, “It’s not how the person’s body image looks like or how much they weigh.” Misusing pronouns is the common mistake I make frequently. Subject-verb agreement is another subject that I’ve always struggle with in my writing. I don’t catch the error when I proofread the sentences.…

By having this part of class, it has made my writing skills better in so many different ways. First off, I created a better understanding of how develop complex ideas and arguments as well ways as to support it. However, after hearing so many lectures presented in class, I begin to improve my writing from the creating process: I start to care about what will readers anticipate and when writing the papers, I will go back to check the subjects of each sentence in the same paragraph to keep the topic in focus. For example, in the body paragraphs of the comparison essay, I tried to let most sentences start with the subjects as the authors, Shell and…
