week’s assignment the thing that I found the most interesting was learning about the history of race. I am a history buff and love learning about it, which is why I received my bachelor’s in History. The things I focused on the most from this week’s assignment was the history of race that we study on the PBS website, I did some further research into and found some interesting articles to further my knowledge. I believe there is so much that plays a role in race, from the first thought of race to today’s media hype about racial tensions.

There are different types of heritages that being enslaved thought-out time, and without racial ideology. The first people enslaved were actually not Africans but the Irish. Irish slavery began in the thirteenth century and then changed to English slavery when the slave trade met with harsh resistance. Poor English people were uprooted from their living conditions and sold as slaves and sent to the colonies in the New World, however, it wasn’t just the poor eventually it became those trying to escape Europe out of free of religious persecution. That want to escape is actually how my family came to the New World, they feared for their lives and under the rule King James he promised the desperate people free voyage to the New World on one of his many ships. This offer sounded great to these people and they had no idea they were actually being sold as servants. The New World was also not the only country accepting slavery, Barbados and Jamaica had Slaves working on the fields there, these Slaves were of Irish and Indian decent. There really was not much difference of treatment between African Slaves and the other Slaves, they all received the same harsh treatment and living conditions. Once the White Slaves became free, they also dealt with discrimination and denied by the government such freedoms as land, and the other privileges the New World had to
