I chose this study because Alternative work arrangements are something that I am strong believer in. MY major is human resource management and alternative work arrangements are something that I will be working with. There are so many different arrangements that can be made. Even very simple arrangements when help an employee with a home-work conflict. Making these accommodations when possible does not just benefit the employees they benefit the organization as a whole. When organizations put in the time and effort to make these arrangements employees will feel valued and this will reflect directly in their work. The potential for these arrangements will also make the company and it positions more desirable to individuals who are searching to a …show more content…
Followership and leadership were covered in chapter twelve of the text. A great leader is only as strong as their followers. Leaders need to have willing followers without unreasonable expectations for their leader. The leader also needs to have the capacity to know they should step aside and let another lead. In order to be the best leader they much have the highest concern for people as well as the highest concern for results. When this is achieved they are viewed as a team manager.

In chapter 1, "On Leadershp", Mr. Gardener outlines a foundation of leadership by indicating, followership is achieved when the flow of influence and communication goes in both directions. He also states that positional authority dose automatically mean that subordinates will be followers. It's up to the leader to earn the status of "performance elites" and the subordinates will determine if they will be followers, or continue as subordinates. Ultimately it will be the followers who will determine who the great leader are. I work at a Healthcare facility so I've chosen the mission statement of the facility that I've applied at.…

The term “leadership”, as described throughout Unit 1 of our reading, is portrayed by one’s ability to influence and or develop those around him or her in a positive direction (Manning & Curtis, 2012). Personally, I find that being a leader, in today’s society, is only as difficult as maintaining that influence through personal growth and experience. Additionally, a leader must possess the ability to motivate and direct others through collaborative communication in the attempt to achieve organizational objectives. Someone I find to be a great leader would be General George Patton of the United States Army.…

Some people think leaders are born with a trait that innately makes them leaders, while others theorize that it is a characteristic of an individual, but we have learned that leaders are a product of their development and life experiences. Leaders are concerned with understanding people’s beliefs and gaining their commitment. They function without focusing on the opinions of others, which allows them to think of new ideas and motivate others to develop these…

Social Work with Groups course is giving me more insight to the other courses that I have taken previously and some of those that I am currently rolled in such as Social Work with Families and Community Development. After reading the textbook and the discussions in class, the theories of group counseling, viewing groups through multicultural lens, leadership qualities and functions, co-facilitator and group development stood out for me and broaden my perception into Social Work as a profession. The first thing that caught my attention this time is that, theories of counseling are also applicable to group counseling. I learned about the theories in my social work practice class last year. However followers and leaders should share a mutualistic relationship where all members work together to play their individual part. I learned that there are many different types of followers and the best followers seem to be emerging leaders. While these followers may have learned these abilities by their self the leader should use their transformational leadership skills to foster the follower and enhance abilities to possibly one day take the leaders spot. This way not only can he or she play the role of a follower especially well they can also step up and be the leader if need be. I think that shows how the different types of leaderships are entangled.…
