Webquest Reflection

I met with my mentor teacher and showed her the assignment printout indicating my requirements for the class lesson that I needed to conduct in the month of November. She thought it would be a great idea to introduce the new unit cover Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet by having the students conduct a webquest to discover information about the Elizabethan Era and the life of Shakespeare and presenting their information using a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation. I asked her if they were familiar with the PowerPoint and Prezi software and she said that they all have used PowerPoint before, but she was not sure about the Prezi. She provided me with a typed page of questions that she had used in past semesters, but she said that I did not have to use …show more content…
First, I should have insisted that my mentor teacher double check my group arrangements prior to the day of my lesson. Because I was missing a student on my list, I was forced to make another group of three. In my panic of feeling out of control during the moment of realizing that I missed a student on my list, I just put him with the closest set of students. I should have taken a minute and reviewed the group arrangements and decided where he would best learn the lesson. Additionally, I should have anticipated a grouping problem and had an extra webquest prepared in case I needed to move someone or form a different group during the …show more content…
This lesson made me realize that I should have taken into consideration the complexity of each question and the abilities of each group member. I know the students with IEP’s do not want their special education teacher seating next to them during group work, but I need to figure out how I can incorporate the differentiated activities to engage these students. I want them to feel like an active member of the class, not lost and frustrated. The one major regret that I have about this lesson is the feeling that not all of my students learned new skills to research information because they were not given the proper tools or environment to do so. In future lessons I will make sure to think about the complexity of the activities and what I am requiring of each of the students. If I have any hesitations about any of my students’ abilities to complete the tasks, I will make sure to differentiate my lesson to meet all of my students’ needs. Additionally, I will speak with the special education teachers for advice and guidance prior to conducting the class

According to the Lamar County School Student/Parent handbook,There are a number of factors are taken into account when computing a student's grade: homework, daily class work, neatness in preparation of work, promptness in completing work, projects, portfolios, and more. (41) Many classes focus particularly on the skills that require teacher observations (e.g. participation in cooperative group work) rather than grading paperwork. For this reason, attendance is also a factor to take into account when determining grades, because students need to be present in order to receive a grade for activities that require teacher observations such as group projects, whole class discussions, and more types of formative and summative assessments. Lamar County Public Schools have a 10 point grading scale and has four grade reporting periods for each school year. Students who are receiving a regular education, not special education, will have their school work assessed based on their grade level.…

On the day of Shelby and I’s presentation I was excited to share our fun and interactive math activity with my classmates. We incorporated a lot of SIOP strategies that were explicitly shown in our slides throughout the whole presentation. It was extremely helpful to receive feedback from our peers about other ideas, strengths and weaknesses in our lesson plan. Some of my classmates told me that we should ask questions that extend their thinking so I included this during the lesson and this was really helpful advice.…

For this IPC #2 This is my reflections on the second IPC for the UACT program. For this reading the text "Revolution Shuffle" by Boa Phil in the book Octavia's Brood. I choose this book for it's collection of short stories with characters that reflect my student population at Excel Public Charter School. I selected Revolution Shuffle because of the outcome of the recent elections a lot of my students had fears based on what may or may not happen with the new administration. I applied strategies, such as the following: scaffold instruction, manipulatives, Piaget’s Stages of Development, and chunking the lesson. From my own personal experience of having a specific learning disability, I have the ability to be more empathic towards working with students with disabilities and apply my pedagogy knowledge of evidenced-based strategies. If I didn’t apply both my experience of having a disability and pedagogy to the lesson, I would be an effective teacher candidate to the students, resulting students to not have a meaningful learning experience. I had the lesson incorporate more student interaction and engagement by having the students ask peer questions: “How many more students like ______ over ___________?” Both Mrs. Corcoran and I have found that when students are more engaged in the lesson, that it increase the amount of material they are learning, increases classroom participation, and decreases student errors.…

The best way a teacher could do this is by first finding the student 's strengths. If one student is a very visual person and learns best by watching videos instead of just reading from textbook, the teacher could incorporate more videos into their lessons. A teacher’s job is to teach all of their students and cater to their needs. By watching their students, teachers can figure out what works best for some people and the most effective way to teach all the students. Another way to focus on a student with learning disabilities strength’s is by not labeling and segregating them.…

A teacher’s goal is to maximize his or her student’s potential. Traditionally, the biggest challenge for students with disabilities was to meet their needs in the areas of social, behavioral, cognitive, perceptive and motor skills (Adebisi et al. 14). A learning disability is defined by the Schwab Foundation as a person who is diagnosed by a professional with a difficulty as a result of a CNS dysfunction in the areas or reading, writing, math, science, reasoning speaking, or listening. In order to meet the diverse needs of these students, they were traditionally removed from the mainstream classroom and placed in a separate classroom to learn. Although this was the best way to meet the students’ academic needs, their social needs were grossly…

Nature versus nurture in early childhood education has been an ongoing debate for a very long time. Presently we are not sure which human development works better, as both nurture and nature seem to be a vital importance in the role of human development. Nature can be defined as genetic inheritance or the genes in which a person inherits from both parents at the time of conception and carries throughout life, in contrast nurture can be defined as the different environmental factors to which a person is subjected from birth to death such as the neighborhood you grow up in, media and peer pressure. The scholarly article Back Talk: Nature vs. Nurture in Special Education by Susan Unok Marks, brings to light three assumptions that guide the practice…
