My Experience As A Writer

Improved Essays
Writing for me has always been more of a pain then something I enjoy. Ever since I was little I have had to do writing assignments for school. Now, I like writing but I don’t like writing. If you tell me to write a story about anything, or write what’s on my mind, I will gladly sit down and write and be happy. But if you give me an assignment that’s boring, or something I don’t like, then I’m going to have a hard time writing it and it’s probably not going to be a hundred percent. From my very first piece of writing to now, my writing process and interest have undergone a very big changed. As my writing process changed through the years, so have my thoughts about writing and the experiences that go with it. When I have to write anything I …show more content…
In 8th grade we had to write a research paper, on anything. So being a military fanatic, I did my research paper on if the United States should withdraw from Iraq. Even though it was a research paper, it was on a topic I really enjoyed to research and I had no problem writing it and it was the best one out of the whole school, at least that’s what my teacher and principle told me. It was so good that I got a metal, for the best research paper in my grade. My other great writing experience was in 12th grade, when I wrote my college essay. When I first started, I didn’t know what to write about, but once I did I hammered away at it and it was amazing. The topic I finally picked was my life experiences working on my farm taking care of my goats. Writing about my life was very easy and I liked it. It wasn’t boring or annoying and it just flowed from my brain, to my fingers, to my keyboard, and final to my computer screen. I ended up writing over 2800 words, but the limit was 650 words. So after cutting down a lot and making my paper flow very nicely it was one of the greatest papers I have ever written and I got a lot of feedback from the colleges I sent it to. One college even gave me a 20,000 dollar scholarship for it. My great writing experiences in 8th and 12th grade were a result of my …show more content…
They were fun topics to write about. I like assignments that peak my interests that make me use my imagination, and that aren’t boring. Writing assignments that are like that, for me, are so hard to write because I have no interest, no incentive to do it. It a waste of time in my opinion and I just don’t like writing assignment like that. If you gave me an assignment like write a 20 page short story I would start right away and I would love and do a great job writing it cause that’s something I enjoy. So all my fun, imaginative assignments that I have gotten over the years have made me start to write a sci-fi book about teens who find remnants of a past civilization, there civilization, and found it was destroyed by the people who now control everything and who made all the humans into slaves. If I had never gotten those assignments I would have never started writing this book, and so far I’m having a real good time writing

When I write I feel liberated, expressive, creative, and most of all I feel like myself when I write. I love being assigned an essay, or written response because it gives me the opportunity to portray my personality and ora through my words. In my 3 years at high school so far my easiest assignments have always been written; it just comes natural to me. Words can be as sharp as a knife, or as dull as a feather and I live for them.…

Writing would never be called my passion; however, if the topic of interest is thought-provoking, writing can be pleasurable. I have always been exceedingly critical of my writing, and I have a bad habit of producing your standard “five paragraph with five sentences” essay. High school was the true test of my writing skills, mainly because I had to take the ACT and SAT with writing if I wanted to get into the only Georgia school that I thought was up to par with my standards: The University of Georgia. Even though my teachers have considered me to be an acceptable writer, I have always considered myself rather subpar. This insecurity about my writing has haunted me throughout my life, and I have this feeling towards writing mainly…

For eighteen years, I have roamed this earth, and for thirteen of those years I have been able to harness my craft in writing. As I look back on those times, I see how much I have improved. I learned that I despised word count essays and loved creative writing assignments. My literacy journey began in kindergarten where they taught us how to write out the alphabet, my name, and simple sentences. I don’t remember everything that about my time in kindergarten, but I do remember how frustrated I was trying to write out my name.…

I struggle with many aspects of writing but the satisfaction it creates makes up for it. It feels pretty nice when you finish a large piece of writing. You kind of sit back and think, “Wow did I just do that?” I mentioned that I write mostly essay and research papers, which are the worst to write. It is so boring especially when the topic is dull or there are lots of boundaries.…

This I actually wrote something that I thought was good. I liked how we talked about the assignments before hand. It sets us in the mood and informs us what we are writing. I learned that it is much easier to write about something that you can get to know the topic first instead of jumping right into it. I was always encouraged to pick a topic and just write something about it.…

Getting started writing a paper is a tough task! In my effort to complete writing assignments, my first struggle is often with selecting a topic. I actually prefer to be assigned a topic rather than being allowed the freedom to choose. The world is unfathomably big and tremendously fascinating, I can literally spend days or possibly weeks trying to select a topic. I am exhausted before I even begin my research.…

Every day, individuals learn new things in their lives. They learn a lot of things that they should be aware of. Two of the most important things that people have to learn are reading and writing. These two things are kind of easy to learn, but they become harder if a learner is not a native speaker. I studied English for 12 years in Kuwait, my country.…

    Essay On My Writing Style

As I look back to the writing I have done the past couple of years the first things I think of are rushed deadlines, automated essay prompts and constant cramming. Throughout my high school years the focus of writing assignments shifted from a method of self expression to a type of formula needed to pass many of the Advanced Placement exams. Although I did enjoy the freedom writing gave in my younger years when I was still given an opportunity to voice my thoughts and opinions, I have not grown fond of the writing style imposed upon me during my later high school years. The assignments were regurgitated College Board prompts given to me and my classmates by a teacher trying to prepare us for an exam that would not just reflect on us, but ultimately brand their reputation as a teacher. The goal of writing was neither to properly express and communicate with the world, nor was it to simply become better writers for our own benefit; it was to learn the formula in order to do well on a single exam.…

I had always assumed that my talents in relation to writing had a relatively mediocre limit, a “glass ceiling” of sorts. All my early literary efforts resulted in collapse and a greater distaste for writing. For me, writing was like trying to catch sand slipping through my fingers: never attainable. I remember a much smaller version of myself sitting down with a freshly sharpened pencil, extra-wide lined paper, and leave engulfed in eraser shavings. The beginning of the story would always start off promising, but no longer than twenty minutes into writing, I would realize that my story had no conceivable ending and needed to be immediately shredded.…

For some people, writing is difficult and it can become stressful to write about topics you have no interest about; for me it’s the contrary, I have always had good fluency when it comes to write about any topic, even if it doesn’t interest me, this is mainly because I take it as a new challenge or an opportunity to have a more in deep look about the certain topic; I use this not only for writing but every time I get tasked with something new, for example back when I was in the marine recruit training more commonly known has boot camp, it’s a requirement to learn how to shoot a rifle with outstanding accuracy, for me this was something completely new since I had never held a rifle before and it hadn’t really caught my attention until…

I have always considered my relationship with writing to be very insignificant. Although I enjoy spending time verbally expressing my thoughts and feelings to others, it becomes difficult when these thoughts and feelings are expressed through writing. Throughout my adolescent years, I would often receive feedback for my writing given by the teacher in the form of a grade. Being unable to effectively organize my thoughts and ideas into words and sentences, I would feel reluctant to continue writing confidently whenever I received an undesirable grade.…

To me, writing has always been busy work and something that teachers only used to create grades. My writing experience in high school was very limited to one category in: practice AP essays. The writing I did in class was always preparing for AP exams and was very fact based. Most essays, such as history, were only used to show that I knew the material and weren’t graded on how good the writing was. I didn’t feel like I had any freedom to stray away from the format that the AP graders expected because I didn’t want that to affect my score.…

If you were to ask me about my high school writing experience, I would tell you that I did not have much experience. We did not have any classes at my school that were specifically writing classes. At my high school, we just had regular English classes where we would occasionally do a few papers in. My English teacher senior year was a great person, but did not necessarily teach us a lot about proper styles of writing papers. Coming into college English, I did not feel well prepared with what to expect for a college level writing class.…
