My Reflection On Teaching At Connersville Middle School

Reflecting on Teaching During my time at Connersville Middle School, I feel that I have grown as a teacher. I have enjoyed my experience and feel that I have really grown into a teacher by accepting the responsibilities of a teacher. Each day I cannot wait to get into the classroom and I have gained trust and formed relationships with my students and the staff of the building. After completing my teach week and being in the classroom the past couple of months I now have the anticipation of wanting to be in my classroom and teaching my own class and I can’t wait until spring semester where I get the opportunity to teach for a large chunk of time in a classroom that becomes mine. I feel that I have progressed in a number of the InTASC …show more content…
The first-day students learned from a PowerPoint and lecture that was led by me while students took notes/answered questions and they would be able to answer the questions from the PowerPoint, lecture, or discussion. Students who are able to learn from a lecture and a teacher-led class learned from this information. The next day students watched a series of video clips and students summarized the videos as we watched the videos and in between the videos I led a discussion to talk about the video. I believe this lesson helped students who learn better by watching videos rather than listening to the teacher lecture. The third day I put students in partners and I had students with higher grades and higher reading levels working with students who had lower reading levels and they worked together to maximize performance. This lesson helped students who learn from peer work and high achieving students learned from helping lower achieving students and lower achieving students learned from a peer rather than a teacher. The fourth-day students were put into groups of three and four and they got the chance to discuss and debate important issues with each other. Students were able to think critically and hear …show more content…
After each period and day, I reflected on my teaching and student’s ability to grasp the content that was being taught. I reflect on myself as a teacher as often as I can so I can improve as a teacher because I want to be the best teacher I can be. I recorded myself teaching every day and I watched the videos at the end of each day so I can reflect on how I moved around the room, my instructional and direction delivery, my engagement with the students, along with all other aspects of teaching. I really enjoyed watching myself teach so I could improve. Collaboration is also something I used every day. Connersville Middle School uses “teaming” which is something that allows all teachers that have my students throughout the day sit down and discuss what is going on in their classroom for the week. This is a daily meeting. I used this time to figure out what I could do to improve as a teacher and get feedback and information from other teachers in the building. These meeting sometimes includes the school counselor which allows the teachers to know what kind of personal issues our students may be going through. Collaboration and reflection are standards that I have met diligently because I believe they are key to becoming a successful
