Essay On Reflective Appraisal

I think that reflected appraisal has had a tremendous effect on the way that I act. One of the things that I have reflected on and have come to the conclusion of is that growing up, particularly in high school, one of the comments that I frequently got was that I am “very sassy.” It was not usually in a negative situation either, most of the time the person would make the sassy comment after I made retort about an action I thought was stupid or unnecessary and it usually resulted in a ripple of laugher. I feel as though, because of the positive result of the situation and the joking comment, I associated being sassy and making people laugh. As I have grown, and in the situation that I am in currently, I have come to realize that if I am in a foul mood, instead of people thinking that my sassiness is funny, they instead have turned it to me “being a bitch.” I frequently find myself walking the line between sassy and being bitchy, and have to turn to my finds and tell them the predicament that I am in and see if I have crossed the line. …show more content…
Something that has affected me recently is that I have not been in a serious relationship in a while. When I mention this to my friends, often times one of the things that they say to me is that the problem I have is that, it is not clearly distinguishable that I am gay. I find myself now occasionally questioning whether or not an outfit I am putting on, or even when I am buying clothes, is “gay enough.” Also, this has transcended into my everyday lifestyle, as in I have to talk like a stereotypical gay, I have to be up-to-date on the new fashion trends, and have a clean room or car and if I do not match the accepted stereotypes my friends point this out as I am not “gay
