Referential Option For The Poor Theme

During the film that we watched during class we see these two brothers venture into New York City and join the homeless. They live on the cold streets at night fighting off the rats along with the bitter cold. The brothers meet several characters who open up and share their story of the outcomes in life that led them to be homeless. The key theme that is directly displayed during the scene is the Preferential Option for the Poor. This theme is the condition of the poor and the marginalized are of particular concern for Christians. The theme appears directly in this scene by showing you exactly how life is for the poor in the big apple. The scene shows the hardship that the people had gone through to get to this point along with the terrible conditions that the people treat them. You also see the struggle to get food and how hard someone must toil to obtain rations of food. Another scene showing the brothers along with some friends travel out of the country to go and help out with a group of kids who all have disabilities some mental others physical. This group of kids all are cared for by volunteers. Mainly because all these kids have been abandoned by their parents for the time being until they are heeled and their parents can support them economically. Their is an older gentlemen who owns the house that the children stay at and this man is the main care giver to the children. This man drives all the kids to the hospital for treatments and is constantly surrounding these kids with love and joy just to help make them feel a sense of normality.
