Reducing wildfires is a huge problem that is trying to be solved. Prescribed burns is one of these ways but what does it really do for humans and the environment? Controlled burns are not wise because they get out of control very quickly, air quality becomes dangerous to breathe, and dips the economy dramatically.
Controlled burns are quite the opposite of their name, they get out of control faster than they can be put out and contained. Such as in the 2012 case in North Carolina in which “Forest Service personnel started this…prescribed burn…fire quickly grew out of control…now covers 21,000 acres…”. In that case, the U.S. Forest Service personnel had started a prescribed burn that ended up being a huge wildfire in just a span of a few days.
