We can live without designer labels, cars, the latest phone and even electricity. However, we cannot live without food. Food security is one of the biggest issues facing our world over the next fifty years. Indeed, according to demographers the world population is expected to grow to nine billion by 2050. In reality, is about two billion more than we have now. The problem is nation such as Africa and Asia are already having difficulties feeding their population. The world’s top agricultural experts believe that we have to figure out new strategies to deal with global food security. We may be entering a new and dangerous era of human history where food, water and energy become rare. By some estimates, global yields will need to double or even triple over the next forty years to keep pace with population growth. Consequently, we need to find some alternatives to increase the food supply without seriously damaging the environment or adding to global warming.
