Proposal To Reduce Obesity Trends In My Local Community

We look across America and see a land of freedom, of opportunity, and a growing obesity problem. There is not enough awareness of health and nutrition, thus it is necessary to educate our community members to help prevent and decrease obesity. As a health activist, I wish to change the obesity trends in my local community.
An adult male is considered to be obese if he exceeds a body fat percentage of 24%, while an adult female has to obtain a body fat percentage of 37% to cross the line between overweight and obese. Children and adults can acquire this excessive body fat by having a “caloric surplus,” or consuming more calories than they use during the day. It does not matter if someone gets their carbohydrates and fats from a donut or an apple and peanut butter; if it has the same macronutrients, then their body cannot tell the difference. Educating the community members about this will help them achieve a healthy lifestyle by tracking their macros. If they know how many calories they need to sustain or lose weight then a manipulation of their calories, more specifically their macronutrients, can allow for healthy weight loss.
I want Darlington County to take action, by starting at home and creating a community willing to learn and live a healthy lifestyle. For example, my Taekwondo instructor, Mr. Greene eats healthy foods and has encouraged me to exercise and play sports. He has helped me achieve my strong physical and mental state. Parents should mirror Mr. Greene’s actions and encourage others to become healthy

It is called Student2Student Strong. We recruit children in grades three to five from the local Boys and Girls Club of America. Each child is assigned a “wellness coach” (a healthy, well-rounded, child-oriented mentor) that will promote a healthy lifestyle to each one of their mentees (their child from the boys and girls club). These “wellness coaches” are high school volunteers that act as a role model to these underprivileged children who have not been taught to be genuinely healthy.
